Role: Senior Software Engineering Manager
Location: Santa Clara, CA (Onsite – 4 days/Week)
Duration: FTE
Overview
We are seeking a highly hands-on Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead a critical enterprise modernization initiative focused on industrial software transformation. This role requires a strong technical leader with deep architectural expertise, proven experience executing large-scale enterprise data migrations, and the ability to drive complex modernization efforts from design through production deployment.
The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong foundational understanding of distributed systems, secure software engineering practices, CI/CD architecture, and cross-functional delivery execution. This is not a purely managerial role; the selected individual will serve as a technical leader and player-coach who can architect solutions, troubleshoot complex engineering challenges, and guide teams through structured technical decision-making.
Reporting directly to the CIO & Head of Cybersecurity, this leader will drive modernization of legacy MES and ERP applications while building and scaling a modern multi-tenant SaaS Front-End System (FES). The role requires clear communication, strong organizational leadership, and the ability to operate effectively across engineering, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and business teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Hands-on Architecture and Modernization Leadership
Lead end-to-end architecture and execution of enterprise modernization initiatives, including legacy system transformation and SaaS platform development.
Drive detailed technical solutioning and provide clear step-by-step problem-solving approaches for complex engineering challenges.
Architect and oversee large-scale enterprise data migration strategies, including ETL pipelines, CDC (Change Data Capture), synchronization models, rollback planning, and production cutover execution.
Execute modernization patterns such as the Strangler Pattern while ensuring business continuity, data integrity, scalability, and operational resilience.
Provide hands-on leadership in designing and developing distributed microservices using Java 21, Spring Boot, Spring JPA, and Hibernate.
Security by Design and DevSecOps
Implement Security by Design principles throughout the software development lifecycle, including secure CI/CD pipelines, automated compliance validation, secrets management, access controls, and vulnerability remediation.
Partner closely with Cybersecurity leadership to ensure architectural compliance with enterprise security standards and governance frameworks.
Lead implementation of robust GitOps and DevSecOps practices using GitHub, Azure DevOps, Argo CD, and automated deployment strategies.
Cross-Functional Technical Leadership
Collaborate effectively across Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, Product, and Business stakeholders to ensure alignment on technical delivery priorities and execution plans.
Provide structured technical communication, architectural documentation, and executive-level updates on modernization progress, risks, dependencies, and mitigation strategies.
Mentor engineering teams on architectural best practices, system design fundamentals, and enterprise engineering standards.
Technical Requirements
Expert-level proficiency in Java 21, Spring Boot, Spring JPA, Hibernate, and enterprise application architecture.
Strong foundational expertise in enterprise-scale data migration, database modernization, schema transformation, CDC pipelines, and production cutover strategies.
Deep understanding of distributed systems, scalability, resiliency, and multi-tenant architecture design principles.
Strong hands-on experience implementing secure CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps practices, and Security by Design methodologies.
Proven experience with PostgreSQL, SQL infrastructure modernization, API Gateways, Apache Kafka, and Redis in enterprise production environments.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems with structured, methodical engineering approaches rather than tool-centric implementations.
Experience & Qualifications
10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3+ years leading enterprise-scale engineering teams and modernization programs.
Proven track record leading complex enterprise modernization and large-scale data migration initiatives in production environments.
Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on technical execution with cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management.
Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and executive audiences.
Experience operating in high-pressure production environments while maintaining structured decision-making and delivery discipline.
