About the Role
We are seeking an experienced System Engineer with deep expertise in network protocols across OSI Layers 2, 3, and 4, combined with strong analytical and requirements engineering capabilities. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in designing, analyzing, and documenting system-level requirements for complex network and telecommunications solutions aligned with TMF (TeleManagement Forum) standards.
Key Responsibilities:
System Design
Analysis: Analyze, design, and integrate network solutions spanning Layer 2 (Ethernet, VLANs, STP, LLDP), Layer 3 (IP routing, OSPF, BGP, MPLS), and Layer 4 (TCP/UDP, load balancing, session management).
Requirements Engineering: Elicit, document, and manage system and functional requirements using structured methodologies (e.g., IEEE 830, EARS notation, or equivalent).
TMF Standards Compliance: Ensure system designs and interfaces conform to TMF frameworks including TMF Open APIs, SID (Shared Information/Data Model), eTOM (Business Process Framework), and TAM (Telecom Application Map).
Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with product owners, architects, development teams, and external vendors to translate business needs into clear, testable technical requirements.
Gap Analysis
Impact Assessment: Perform gap analysis between current systems and target architectures; assess the impact of proposed changes on existing network infrastructure.
Documentation: Produce high-quality requirements specifications, system design documents, interface control documents (ICDs), and traceability matrices.
Validation
Verification: Support test planning and acceptance criteria definition to ensure delivered solutions meet documented requirements.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes, and tooling in alignment with industry best practices and TMF guidelines.
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
5+ years of experience in a Systems Engineering or Network Engineering role within telecommunications or enterprise networking environments.
Proven Layer 2/3/4 expertise, including hands-on experience with:
Layer 2: Ethernet switching, VLANs, spanning tree protocols, MAC addressing, ARP, QinQ
Layer 3: IP routing (static
dynamic), OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, VRF, multicast
Layer 4: TCP/UDP fundamentals, NAT, firewalling concepts, load balancing, session persistence
Prior experience writing technical requirements — including functional, non-functional, interface, and system-level requirements with full traceability.
Familiarity with TMF standards and frameworks, including but not limited to:
TMF Open APIs (TMF620, TMF641, TMF645, etc.)
SID (Shared Information/Data Model)
eTOM (Enhanced Telecom Operations Map)
ODA (Open Digital Architecture)
Skills:
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to decompose complex systems into well-defined components and requirements.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Proficiency in requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama, Jira, Confluence, or equivalent).
Understanding of network protocols analysis tools (Wireshark, tcpdump, etc.).
Familiarity with Agile and/or V-Model development lifecycles.
