Job Summary We are seeking a PRN Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD Required) to support the DOSE Study, a multi‑site, five‑year clinical trial focused on effective weight‑loss interventions for children with obesity. This research‑based, fully remote position requires approximately 15 hours per week and involves no inpatient clinical responsibilities. The nutritionist will deliver personalized nutrition counseling via virtual telehealth sessions using a motivational interviewing approach that targets seven key health behaviors: fruits and vegetables, snacks, sugar‑sweetened beverages, physical activity, healthy sleep, healthy media use, and engaged parenting. Sessions will follow a structured guide that includes assessing weight changes, providing evidence‑based nutrition education and medical nutrition therapy for obesity, and identifying barriers to healthy behavior change. The role also involves adherence to study protocols, monitoring intervention fidelity, and collaborating with the research team to ensure successful implementation of all study phases. Administrative tasks and relevant meetings will consume approximately five hours per week.
Core Responsibilities
Provide medical nutrition therapy, including counseling and education, using evidence‑based guidelines.
Facilitate care coordination with other study interventionists.
Problem‑solve with the study team to maintain high fidelity of the curriculum.
Participate in process improvement initiatives and shared decision‑making.
Adhere to study protocols around intervention implementation and fidelity monitoring.
Complete quality check protocols to ensure accurate data entry.
Participate in participant retention efforts.
Communicate professionally with team members and stakeholders.
Maintain professional documentation that meets department and VUMC standards.
Demonstrate organization and self‑direction, and reliably access internet for telehealth sessions.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience). Prior experience with children and adults is required.
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN) credential required; Tennessee licensure preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire.
Experience applying motivational interviewing techniques to counsel families, especially those with high social needs or from rural backgrounds.
Research experience preferred.
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Scheduling flexibility for two evening counseling sessions per week (approximately five hours each) and one Saturday morning session per month.
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
Reliable internet access for remote work.
Compensation & Working Hours Compensation: $40 per hour. This PRN role is fully remote, requiring 1–2 sessions weekly (primarily evening hours) with optional Saturday sessions monthly. Total workload is approximately 15 hours per week.
