About The Role We're looking for a Project Engineer – Thermal Management, Utility Scale Energy Storage on behalf of our client. This is a 1-year contract assignment (W‑2). The Utility Scale Energy Storage team is seeking a Project Engineer specializing in Thermal Management for Lithium‑Ion Battery Systems. You will support BESS projects from design through commissioning, collaborating across the organization to provide the best energy storage solutions.
You will report to the onsite manager.
Location: Remote or Juno Beach, FL.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate design aspects of major components for utility‑scale energy storage projects
Prepare technical scopes of work for thermal management studies and designs for incorporation into contract documents
Support projects from conception through commissioning, including on‑site commissioning activities
Provide engineering guidance to project teams and oversee external Engineers of Record
Collaborate with suppliers on equipment sizing, controls, technology compatibility, and integration
Partner with multi‑disciplined teams on problem solving, system integration, and process improvement
Identify value engineering opportunities and track emerging technologies
Qualifications Education & Experience
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an ABET‑accredited program
5+ years of engineering experience
Helpful Experience
Subject matter expertise in thermal management for energy storage systems, including one or more of: hydronic HVAC, air‑cooled HVAC, battery heat generation/dissipation, or BESS design
Hands‑on experience with VRF, hydronic, and air‑side HVAC systems
Knowledge of energy storage technologies, including battery chemistries, power conversion units, and DC/DC converters
Familiarity with relevant safety standards: UL1973, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 70E, NEC, and applicable IFC/IBC sections
