You will collaborate closely with educators, houseparents, administrators, and support staff to reinforce academic expectations and social-emotional learning. Responsibilities include overseeing students’ daily routines, assisting with homework and educational activities, implementing behavior management strategies, and modeling respectful, inclusive behavior. You will lead or support recreational and enrichment activities that encourage teamwork, resilience, and confidence while maintaining consistent expectations for safety and conduct.
A successful Youth Care Worker at Milton Hershey School is patient, dependable, and passionate about working with children and adolescents from diverse backgrounds, many of whom have experienced economic or personal hardship. You will be expected to observe and document student behavior, communicate concerns and progress to the appropriate staff, and respond calmly and professionally to conflicts or crises. Training will be provided in school-approved behavior support techniques, child safety, and trauma-informed care.
This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to manage groups of children or teens, and a commitment to Milton Hershey School’s mission of changing lives through education. Youth Care Workers actively contribute to a culture that values diversity, inclusion, and mutual respect, and they serve as positive role models both on and off duty. The role may entail flexible hours, including afternoons, evenings, and some weekends, to best meet students’ needs in a residential school environment.
