The MIC-LM is integrated in interdisciplinary projects focusing on cell biology, biomedical molecular biology, immunology, host-pathogen interactions, microbiology, and neurobiology. MIC-LM is embedded within the Medical Research Services Core Facilities and actively contributes to various national and international research consortia, fostering an interactive scientific environment.

The MIC-LM is seeking to recruit a highly motivated scientist to join its team and work in a highly stimulating academic research environment. The successful candidate should have a strong background in advanced light microscopy, ideally including super-resolution microscopy, and an interest in the establishment and development of imaging technologies. Remuneration will be based on qualifications and the salary structure of the TV-L (public service tariff scale). The initial contract is limited to three years.

  • Establish, apply and support advanced light microscopy techniques including confocal laser scanning microscopy, fluorescence lifetime and super-resolution microscopy, as well as automated microscopy.
  • Generate workflows for automated image acquisition and quantitative analysis, including segmentation and machine learning-assisted image processing and data analysis.
  • Manage and organize data acquisition and facilitate access to computing resources for image analysis.
  • Advise and assist users with experimental planning, execution, and analysis.
  • Train staff and users in image acquisition and analysis techniques through workshops and practical courses.
  • Maintain microscopes and computer work stations.

  • Ph.D. in physics, biology, biochemistry, chemistry or equivalent qualification, with strong expertise in light microscopy.
  • Proven ability to design, implement, and optimize microscopy-based experiments using advanced light microscopy techniques.
  • Experience in quantitative image analysis and data management, ideally including automated or machine learning-based segmentation approaches.
  • Analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and to coordinate collaborative projects.
  • Ability to work in an international team.
  • Fluent in English; German knowledge is advantageous but not essential.
