School-Based SLPA Opportunity

This contract SLPA opportunity is based within a public school district in the beautiful Rowan County region of North Carolina, serving students in the Rowan-Salisbury Schools. The area offers the best of both worlds: a welcoming, close-knit community feel with convenient access to larger metropolitan areas. Located between Charlotte and the Triad, Rowan County and the city of Salisbury provide easy access to major airports, dining, shopping, arts, and professional sports, while allowing you to live and work in a more relaxed and affordable environment. Salisbury and the surrounding communities are known for their historic charm, tree-lined neighborhoods, and vibrant downtown with local restaurants, galleries, theaters, and community events. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy nearby lakes, parks, greenways, and nature preserves, as well as family-friendly attractions and festivals held throughout the year. The region offers a strong sense of community pride, well-regarded schools, and a variety of recreational and cultural activities, making it an appealing place to build both a career and a life.

In this school-based SLPA role, you will work under the direction and supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist to support students across preschool and/or K12 settings. Depending on the specific assignment, you may serve one school or rotate between multiple campuses within the district. The typical schedule follows the school calendar, generally Monday through Friday, during school hours, providing predictable daytime work and alignment with academic breaks.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Implementing speech-language treatment activities designed by the supervising SLP to address IEP goals
  • Providing direct services to students in individual and small-group settings within classrooms, therapy rooms, and other school environments
  • Supporting speech and language interventions that may target articulation, receptive and expressive language, fluency, social communication, and functional communication
  • Assisting with preparation and organization of therapy materials, visual supports, and communication tools, including low-tech AAC strategies as directed
  • Accurately collecting and recording student performance data during sessions and reporting progress to the supervising SLP
  • Following all IEPs, intervention plans, schedules, and service delivery models as outlined by the supervising SLP and school team
  • Collaborating with teachers, related service providers, and school staff to support carryover of communication strategies in the classroom
  • Providing clear, professional communication with staff and families within the scope of SLPA practice and under SLP supervision
  • Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to district policies, state rules, and ethical guidelines for school-based practice
  • Participating in team meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities as requested by the district

A typical day in this position may include a mix of direct therapy sessions, classroom support, collaborative planning with the supervising SLP, and documentation time. You can expect to work as part of a caring, student-focused team that values collaboration and support. Caseloads, student ratios, and the specific age groups served will depend on the assigned schools and district needs, with an emphasis on providing meaningful, educationally relevant services. This role offers the opportunity to gain strong school-based experience, build your skills under the guidance of experienced Speech-Language Pathologists, and make a direct, positive impact on students' communication abilities and academic success. The Rowan-Salisbury community provides a warm, welcoming backdrop for your work, with a quality of life that supports both professional growth and personal well-being.
