Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
- Have a current or past diagnosis of a mental health, substance use, or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
- Have received or be receiving treatment.
- Have a minimum educational requirement of a high school diploma or General Equivalence Diploma (GED) certificate.
- Demonstrate a pattern of recovery from mental health, substance use, or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder.
- Successfully compete adult peer support specialist training approved by the Department.
JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:
- Follow all applicable regulations including 908 KAR 2:220. Adult Peer Support Specialist.
- Complete a ROI with each client that allows the peer support specialist to access the entire clinical chart.
- Successfully complete, maintain, and submit a minimum of six (6) hours of related training or education in each subsequent year.
- Provide peer support services in an individual and group setting.
- Use relevant personal stories to assist clients through experience.
- Serve as a role model to the client.
- Encourage client voice and choice during development and implementation of plans.
- Support a client by:
- Attending team meetings on behalf of the client at the request of the client: or
- Accompanying the client to meetings upon the client's request, if applicable.
- Empower a client to have the confidence to be a self-advocate.
- Help providers or other individuals understand the importance of integrating client voice an choice in services and support within a system of care.
- Promote socialization, recovery, self-advocacy preservation, and enhancement of community living skills for clients.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
- Adheres to Isaiah House policies and procedures.
- Attends mandatory in-services and other training/educational programs as required.
