Position Summary
Concordia University Wisconsin is seeking applications for a Counselor in the Department of Counseling and Health Services. This is a full-time (40 hrs./week), exempt position located on the Mequon Campus. The position reports directly to the Director of Counseling and Health Services and through the Assistant to the Vice President of Student Success. The ideal candidate will demonstrate training and experience in trauma-informed care, neurodiversity-affirming practices, and crisis response, along with a strong interest in and understanding of the residential college student population.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
* Provide mental health assessment, crisis intervention, short-term therapy, periodic support groups, case management, and referral services for students
* Deliver services using trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming approaches that support a diverse student population
* Develop and maintain systems for comprehensive mental health crisis intervention services
* Provide leadership for and work collaboratively with Student Success staff to provide programming and support services that help to educate, aid in prevention, and create awareness on mental health topics relevant to diverse student populations
* Provide regular assessment and evaluation of services and programs
* Provide education and training to Resident Assistants and other student groups on mental health issues (along with Director of Counseling), including trauma awareness, crisis response, and neurodiversity-informed support
* Provide input to the Director for revising campus mental health protocols in conjunction with current campus mental health best practices
* Provide consultation services for campus personnel, especially members of the Division of Student Success
* Provide mental health expertise and outreach for the university's crisis management, prevention, response, and recovery efforts (e.g., Good Samaritan Team) as needed and requested
* Engage effectively with students in a residential campus environment, demonstrating understanding of developmental and environmental factors impacting college students
* Supervise intern(s) as needed
* Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skill, & Abilities
* Skilled in mental health assessment, case conceptualization, and treatment planning; proficient in short-term therapy and demonstrated crisis response skills
* Demonstrated training and experience in trauma-informed care and working with individuals impacted by trauma
* Demonstrated training and experience in supporting neurodiverse individuals using affirming, strengths-based approaches
* Experience in crisis assessment and intervention, including suicide risk evaluation and management
* Demonstrated ability to create a trusting, supportive rapport with students, particularly within a residential college setting
* Experience providing services to individuals affected by relationship violence, sexual assault/abuse, eating disorder behaviors, and self-injury
* Knowledge of current campus mental health issues, protocols, and best practices
* Demonstrated record of ethical practice
* The candidate must actively support the mission and values of Concordia University Wisconsin / Ann Arbor and the doctrinal positions of the LCMS
* Able to work some evenings and weekends
* Supportive of the mission and values of Concordia University Wisconsin/Ann Arbor and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)
Education & Experience
Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related field required. Licensed to practice in the State of Wisconsin and minimum of 5 years post-graduate clinical work experience in mental health preferred.
Preferred qualifications include:
* Formal training and/or significant clinical experience in trauma-informed care
* Training and/or experience working with neurodiverse populations (e.g., ADHD, autism spectrum) Experience providing services to individuals affected by relationship violence, sexual assault/abuse, eating disorder behaviors, and self-injury
* Demonstrated experience in crisis response in clinical or campus settings
* Experienced in practicing from a Christian worldview and proficient in incorporating
* Scripture (both Law and Gospel) in therapy
* Experience working with or strong interest in residential college student populations
