Job Title
Greater Amsterdam School District (GASD) currently seeks multiple, 10-month Full-Time, Teacher Aides for various sites within the district (K-12).
Teacher Aides can be assigned or requested to complete the following items:
- Take notes; scribe what is dictated by student; read tests; record test answers in test booklet; keep a child from leaving a room; escort student around the building; keep data on specific behaviors; keep student on task; carry textbooks from class to class; monitor student(s) in cafeteria, assemblies, playground, and bus arrival/departure; school bus monitor; make copies for student/teacher(s); deescalate student(s); escort student during fire drill or other emergencies; lift at least 30 lbs.; sit on floor to physically support a sitting student; stand back up while not allowing a student sitting on the floor to fall over; assist students to sit on floor and stand back up; lift students into/out of wheelchairs, using positioning straps; walk with students around classroom, providing support to maintain upright posture and move feet; accompany or bring students in wheelchairs to/from bus and other places in school; assist with and perform personal care activities for students (toileting, washing hands/face, wipe or blow nose, wipe drool); assist with necessary needs as indicated by student's IEP; clean up student and eating area or assist student; observe time and report seizures to school nurse; read to students individually or in small groups; assist with assistive technology devices for communication (object choices, picture choices, computer choices, communication device choices) (physical support for student, change options as needed to allow student participation); set up materials for students; assist students hand over hand or as needed to use school materials such as paint, scissors, pencils, crayons, markers, craft items, etc.; accompany or bring students in wheelchairs to specials and facilitate participation by providing physical support as needed; push student in wheelchair; accompany or bring students in wheelchairs to the therapies and facilitate participation by providing physical support as needed; and other duties as assigned by building principal.
Minimum qualifications: either:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in a school setting is preferred, but not required.
