This is a great opportunity for a skilled, highly motivated Systems Administrator to come in on the ground floor. We are a small team, so you'll have the opportunity to contribute to all aspects of IT operations, from cybersecurity and networking to server and application configuration. You may contribute to infrastructure on bare-metal servers, or provisioned via cloud service providers like Amazon Web Services, or Azure. You may support both internal corporate assets as well as infrastructure established for external clients. This isn't necessarily a customer-facing role, but a portion of our infrastructure is dedicated to customers. PLEASE NOTE:
Currently this is a remote position with occasional in-person meetings. However, preference will be given to candidates in the vicinity of Bethesda, MD, as a hybrid work arrangement may be established in the future. What you'll do
Work with the team to design, configure, and maintain a virtual private cloud in a CMMC compliant way: Develop scripts and components to streamline and automate our cloud management activities Configure audit and logging with tools like AWS CloudTrail and CloudWatch Provision, configure, and maintain virtual machines supporting web applications, and other components Support administration and maintenance of external customer systems. For example, you may: Develop Ansible and other scripts to automate installation, deployment, and maintenance tasks Troubleshoot and resolve issues with firewalls, SELinux, or fapolicyd Configure, maintain, and monitor virtual machines (VMs). For example, you may: Run and track security compliance scans and remediate issues Monitor system backup activity, usage, and resources Configure a VM created from a baseline image to serve as a file share, Kerberos KDC, or DNS server Plan, install, configure and maintain core enterprise-level applications. For example, you may be responsible for: Apache Http and Tomcat instances GitLab, Artifactory, and Jenkins deployments Elasticsearch and Kibana instances DNS, NFS, and Kerberos servers Support the expansion of our main corporate infrastructure and Cybersecurity practices. For example, you may research, design, and implement: System monitoring and backup capabilities Establish and document corporate IT policies and repeatable procedures to ensure our systems comply with security requirements Plan, coordinate, and document Configuration Control Board activities, Tabletop Exercises, and/or impact analyses as our organizational systems change Support external audit activities through organization, evidence collection, and interview support. In general, you should: Have experience with cloud infrastructure and expertise in Linux Have a background configuring and maintaining networks and systems to comply with security requirements like CMMC Want to participate in all aspects of IT operations from networking to core service configuration and support Have a desire to learn new skills and tools as IT operations and Cybersecurity continue to evolve Be a self-starter who actively looks for ways to improve our environment, practices, and infrastructure Expertise and demonstrated experience in cloud infrastructure design, implementation, and maintenance, preferably with a focus on automation Expert-level knowledge of Linux, shell scripting, and common Linux tools like systemd, firewalld, SELinux, auditd, fapolicyd – RedHat preferred Prior experience NIST SP 800-171 and/or Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC), or similar frameworks for Cybersecurity requirements Solid knowledge of networking, firewall administration, subnetwork design and creation, NAT, DNS, and IPSEC VPNs Experience performing periodic, routine server maintenance, and mitigating security issues A solid understanding of Ansible, configuration automation, and DevOps concepts Experience with configuration and administration of monitoring tools like the Elastic stack A working knowledge of configuration compliance audit and security scanning tools like OpenSCAP, and Nessus BS in Computer Science or related field and at least 15 years' relevant experience; or at least 19 years' relevant experience Why work at Steelcut Software?
