Respiratory Therapist

Avera Health, a regional health system based in Sioux Falls, SD, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Respiratory Therapist to join its Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will provide high‑quality respiratory care to patients of all ages in acute, critical care, emergency, and outpatient settings. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team, you will assess, plan, and deliver respiratory treatments that support optimal patient outcomes. The Respiratory Therapist will perform comprehensive respiratory assessments, interpret diagnostic tests, and administer therapies such as oxygen, aerosolized medications, chest physiotherapy, and non‑invasive and invasive ventilation support in accordance with provider orders and established protocols. You will initiate, manage, and monitor mechanical ventilators, perform ventilator weaning, conduct arterial blood gas sampling and analysis, and adjust respiratory care plans based on clinical findings and patient response. You will participate in rapid response and code teams, providing airway management and life‑support interventions as needed. In addition to direct patient care, you will educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, equipment use, and self‑management strategies to promote safety and long‑term health. You will accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the electronic medical record and communicate clearly with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care. The position also involves maintaining and troubleshooting respiratory equipment, adhering to infection prevention and safety standards, and following all regulatory and hospital policies.
