À propos

Avera Health, a regional health system based in Sioux Falls, SD, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will provide high‑quality respiratory care to patients across the continuum, including acute, sub‑acute, and outpatient settings, while supporting Avera’s mission of compassion, hospitality, and stewardship. The Respiratory Therapist will assess, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders and cardiopulmonary conditions by performing diagnostic tests, administering therapeutic treatments, and collaborating closely with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team. Primary responsibilities include conducting patient assessments, obtaining and interpreting arterial blood gases, implementing physician‑ordered respiratory care plans, and adjusting therapies based on patient response and evidence‑based guidelines. You will administer and manage oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, chest physiotherapy, non‑invasive ventilation, and invasive mechanical ventilation, ensuring proper ventilator setup, monitoring, troubleshooting, and weaning according to established protocols. The role also involves performing and interpreting basic respiratory diagnostics such as spirometry and peak flow measurements, and documenting all care accurately in the electronic health record. The Respiratory Therapist will respond promptly to emergency situations, including rapid response and code blue events, and will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in airway management, manual ventilation, and assisting with endotracheal intubation as appropriate. You will educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, inhaler and nebulizer use, home oxygen safety, and disease self‑management for conditions such as COPD, asthma, and other chronic lung diseases. In addition, you will collaborate with case management and other team members to support safe discharge planning and continuity of care. Avera Health fosters a collaborative, team‑oriented environment where respect, dignity, and patient‑centered care are paramount. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will be encouraged to participate in quality improvement initiatives, follow infection prevention and safety standards, and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of respiratory care services. You will work with advanced respiratory equipment and technology, maintaining competencies and adhering to regulatory and professional standards of practice. This position is ideal for a Respiratory Therapist who is dedicated to improving patient outcomes, eager to grow professionally within a supportive healthcare network, and motivated to serve communities across the Upper Midwest. A successful candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and manage workload in a fast‑paced clinical environment. Avera Health offers the opportunity to build a meaningful career while making a tangible difference in the lives of patients and families every day.
