Ultimately, you'll help develop and ensure our technology solutions keep our company and our customers moving forward.Position Summary:Design, engineer, and evolve network and connectivity solutions that enable Penske's digital products and SaaS platforms to operate securely, reliably, and at scale. This role sits within the Digital Products organization and partners closely with Enterprise IT infrastructure teams to align with enterprise standards while delivering product-centric solutions that meet performance, availability, and scalability requirements.The Staff System Engineer/Infrastructure Lead serves as a technical leader across network architecture, cloud connectivity, and service reliability. This role works closely with product managers, software engineers, and infrastructure teams to design resilient systems, optimize data flow, and ensure seamless integration across cloud and enterprise environments.The position requires deep technical expertise, strong systems thinking, and the ability to operate effectively in a matrixed, shared-responsibility model.This position is based out of our corporate location in Reading, PA. This is an office-first position, in office at least 4 days a week.Major Responsibilities:TechnologyDesign and implement network and connectivity solutions supporting digital products and SaaS platformsTranslate product and engineering requirements into scalable, secure, and high-performing infrastructure designsArchitect and support hybrid and cloud-native networking solutions across cloud platforms and enterprise data centersEnsure high availability, resiliency, and performance of product-facing systems and servicesEvaluate and implement modern networking technologies (e.g., Service mesh, zero trust architectures)Analyze, engineer, and optimize software-defined networking and cloud-based data communication solutionsSolve complex technical problems involving distributed systems and multiple dependenciesProject ManagementDevelop implementation plans, testing strategies, and timelines for complex, cross-functional initiativesPartner with product and engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle, from design through productionLead initiatives from concept through deployment and ongoing optimizationContribute to technology and infrastructure roadmaps aligned to product strategySupport continuous delivery through automation and repeatable infrastructure practicesAnalyticsMonitor and analyze system, network, and application performance across product environmentsEstablish baselines and performance benchmarks aligned to product SLAs/SLOsAnalyze traffic patterns, latency, and system behavior to optimize performance and costSupport capacity planning, forecasting, and scaling strategiesLead and support disaster recovery planning and resilience testing across environmentsCustomer ExperienceCollaborate with product teams, stakeholders, and enterprise partners to understand current and future needsAct as a technical advisor on performance, reliability, and scalability of product platformsPartner with Enterprise IT teams to align on standards, security, and infrastructure capabilitiesCommunicate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholdersParticipate in incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement effortsOther projects as assigned by leadershipQualifications:Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred7+ years of experience in network engineering, systems engineering, or cloud infrastructureExperience supporting digital products, SaaS platforms, or customer-facing applicationsDemonstrated in-depth knowledge of: Hybrid cloud networking and distributed systemsStrong experience with: Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) and associated networking services, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar), Automation and scripting (Python, Bash, etc.)Strong experience with: Containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Openshift), API gateways, service mesh, and modern service-to-service communication, Observability tools (Datadog, Prometheus, Splunk, Dynatrace, etc.)Strong Linux experience. Knowledge of open source and purchased middleware products such as webservers, application servers, database servers, load balancers, single-sign-on software, identity management software, kafka, collaboration software, etc.Understanding of Microsoft Entra ID, External ID, B2B, B2C, IAM, OIDC, SAML, etc.Understanding of security best practices, including zero trust and secure network designStrong knowledge of XOps principles, continuous integration, continuous delivery, and infrastructure automationDeep knowledge of Agile principles and practices and the ability to transfer that understanding at all levels of the organization.Ability to work independently, lead technically, and collaborate within cross-functional, matrixed teamsProven ability to influence and partner with enterprise IT and product engineering teamsStrong communication and problem-solving skillsRegular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the jobWillingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are requiredPhysical Requirements:-The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
