Work Schedule - TBD Sensitive Position - No Mountain Gateway Community College (MGCC) is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of 23 community colleges in Virginia. The college is supported by the Commonwealth of Virginia; the counties of Alleghany, Bath, Botetourt (northern portion) and Rockbridge; the cities of Buena Vista, Covington, and Lexington; and the town of Clifton Forge. On-site and distance learning options incorporate up-to-date technologies. Mountain Gateway Community College is redefining IT education through the MG-TEC Information Technology Laboratory School. We are looking for an innovative educator to lead a hands-on, lab-based program that prepares high school students for the front lines of the tech industry. At MG-TEC, we don't just teach from a textbook. We build environments that resemble real-world IT workplaces, providing students with the practical experience and industry-recognized credentials they need to launch their careers or pursue further degrees. The MG-TEC Information Systems Technology Instructor provides instruction across a range of information technology disciplines, including networking, cybersecurity, programming, and database management, using current technologies and industry-aligned practices in support of the Mountain Gateway Community College MG-TEC Information Technology Laboratory School. MG-TEC offers hands-on, industry-aligned training aimed at preparing high school students for careers in information technology and related fields. Through a lab-based learning model, students gain practical experience with computer systems, networking, cybersecurity fundamentals, and technical support in environments that resemble real-world IT workplaces. MG-TEC provides high school students with access to industry-recognized credentials and enhances their applied problem-solving skills. By integrating classroom instruction with experiential learning, the MG-TEC IT Laboratory School supports regional workforce needs while creating clear pathways to employment and further education. The faculty member, reporting to the director of MG-TEC, supports MG-TEC students pursuing employment, transfer, and lifelong learning in IT fields by creating relevant, engaging, and inclusive learning experiences. In addition to teaching, responsibilities include recruitment and student-enrichment activities, such as field trips and experiential education. Core Responsibilities Teach MG-TEC Information Systems Technology (IST) courses in networking, cybersecurity, programming, database systems, and related areas. Support certification training for all subjects taught. Design and deliver instruction using current industry practices and technologies. Support student learning through active, hands-on, and technology-enhanced teaching strategies in face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities. Participate in recruiting and outreach events in the community and in area middle schools and high schools. Participate in program assessment, curriculum development, and continuous improvement to maintain alignment with industry and transfer standards. Maintain currency in the field through ongoing professional development and participation in college and community service activities. Support other IT-related instruction at MGCC including general population students and Workforce Solutions students. Complete preparation for licensure to teach in K-12 settings. Complete certifications needed to teach program classes. Work from the MGCC Main Campus in Clifton Forge and from the Rockbridge Regional Center in Buena Vista. Willingness to work occasional weekends as required for recruiting events. May be required to perform other duties as assigned. Location: Clifton Forge (Main Campus) & Buena Vista (Rockbridge Regional Center) Position Type: Restricted Faculty (Full-Time) Special Assignments - May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. KSA's/Required Qualifications Demonstrated technical and/or teaching experience in one or more IT disciplines, including networking, cybersecurity, programming, database management, or web/mobile development. Ability to apply industry standards and tools in classroom and lab settings. Strong oral and written communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas). Ability to work effectively with diverse populations of students, faculty, and staff. Commitment to equity-minded teaching practices and continuous professional growth. Minimum Qualifications Demonstrated record of IT networking experience in an academic or workplace environment. Considerable technical or teaching experience in one or more of the following areas: programming, database management, web design, or mobile application development. Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Computer Science or a related field and two years of related occupation work experience. Certifications in one or more of the following: CISCO, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Net+, and/or CompTIA SEC+ or ability to recertify or certify. Proficiency with current Microsoft Office applications. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff. Additional Considerations - Preferred Qualifications Teaching experience in a community college or higher education setting. Master's degree in Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Computer Science or a related field. Demonstrated record of effective teaching that promotes student success, particularly in online and hybrid learning environments. Experience advising students pursuing information technology or related degrees. Experience collaborating with industry partners or serving on program advisory boards to ensure workforce alignment. Evidence of ongoing professional development in emerging IT fields such as cybersecurity, cloud computing, or data analytics.
