Medical Support Assistant

Akicita Federal is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Assistant to provide administrative support at the Jicarilla Service Unit in Dulce, NM. This role is critical in ensuring efficient patient care and clinic operations within a federally operated healthcare environment serving Native American communities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform routine clinical tasks under the direction of a physician or licensed healthcare professional
• Prepare patients for examinations, take vital signs, and record patient history
• Administer injections and immunizations as directed
• Assist providers with procedures and specimen collection
• Maintain examination rooms, equipment, and supplies in a clean and ready state
• Document patient care in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
• Provide patient education and instructions per provider orders
• Coordinate patient flow to ensure smooth and efficient clinic operations
• Perform administrative duties such as scheduling, updating records, and responding to inquiries
• Comply with all infection control, safety, and confidentiality policies and procedures

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Completion of a Medical Assistant training program (Certificate or Diploma)
• Certified or Registered Medical Assistant preferred (CMA, RMA, or equivalent)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (must be current and valid)
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a medical clinic or hospital setting preferred
• Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems (e.g., RPMS, IHS EHR) is a plus
• Must pass a federal background check and drug screening
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with cultural sensitivity
