Job Summary - Medical Assistant

Location: 150 Hillcrest Medical Blvd Waco 76712 - Radiation Oncology

Schedule is: Full time, weekdays. M-F, 8a-5p

As a Medical Assistant, you support doctors by providing patient care and performing delegated medical tasks. You will also maintain records and administer medication and injections, as well as record vital signs.

Essential Functions of the Role
  • Help with examining and treating patients under a physician's guidance.
  • Prepare exam rooms, clean before and after procedures, disinfect equipment, and restock supplies.
  • Talk to patients. Help patients to the exam room and get them ready.
  • Collect data. Patients provide medical history. Information goes in their file. Data used to assist physicians.
  • Monitor vital signs like pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height. Help patients prepare for medical procedures, tests, and x-rays.
  • Conduct patient assessments, process electrocardiograms, and collect blood and urine samples during testing.
Key Success Factors
  • Accurately document patient details in line with organizational guidelines.
  • Understand the rules related to patient privacy and confidentiality (especially HIPPA regulations).
  • Identify and report any signs of physical distress in patients to the healthcare staff.
  • Have a good grasp of medical terminology.
  • Enhance patient comfort and ease through approachable and friendly interactions.
  • Follow instructions from medical professionals proficiently.
  • Know about medical records and how to handle them.
  • Have a keen eye for detail.

Qualifications

  • Completion of high school or equivalent is a must.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant
  • CMA Certification is a plus, but not a must
  • (BLS) Basic Life Support. Candidates without certification must be willing to obtain within 30 days of hire.
