The RN Clinical Admissions Specialist at Sanford Health is responsible for coordinating and evaluating clinical admissions for patients entering our healthcare and medical services across clinics, hospitals, and senior living settings. In this role, you will use your nursing assessment skills to review referrals, collect and verify clinical information, and determine appropriate levels of care in alignment with Sanford Health policies, payer requirements, and regulatory standards. You will communicate directly with referring providers, internal clinical teams, patients, and families to clarify medical histories, discuss care needs, review admission criteria, and ensure a safe and timely transition into the most appropriate Sanford Health setting.
Working within a supportive and inclusive culture, the RN Clinical Admissions Specialist collaborates closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, care managers, and bedside nursing teams to promote high-quality, patient-centered care from the first point of contact. You will carefully document clinical assessments and admission decisions in the electronic health record, maintain accurate and up-to-date records, and support insurance authorization processes by providing clear, concise clinical summaries. Your work will help optimize patient flow, reduce delays in care, and support safe patient placement based on clinical acuity, functional status, and individual preferences.
The role requires strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and the ability to interpret medical records, lab results, imaging, and provider documentation to make informed recommendations. You will apply clinical guidelines, organizational protocols, and payer criteria to determine admission appropriateness, level of care, and potential alternative care options. Exceptional communication skills are key as you provide education to patients and families about admission decisions, expected care plans, and available Sanford Health resources, always demonstrating compassion, respect, and cultural sensitivity.
