Description
Position Overview
The GIS Analyst will support the GIS team by managing mapping, data requests, analysis, and web-based GIS applications. This role will assist in processing spatial data, maintaining GIS databases, and providing GIS-based support for multiple departments.
This position is critical in reviewing locates and updating GIS OSP records, supporting field teams, assisting in CAD-GIS integrations, and enabling ongoing GIS enhancements for fiber network management.
Key Responsibilities
GIS Management & Mapping
- Maintain and update GIS databases, ensuring data accuracy and integrity
- Perform geospatial analysis and mapping tasks, including buffer and proximity analysis
- Generate KMZ files for locates and field operations
- Assist in digitizing as-built records and integrating them into GIS systems
- Support the GIS portfolio of applications and systems
- Provide on-going reports as required or requested
- Manage locates screening application and integration with ArcGIS
- Perform updates provided via mobile system to the GIS system of record
- Provide support for case resolution for damages related to locate tickets
- Provide support of business data and enterprise reports
GIS Application & Web Map Support
- Configure and maintain web maps, dashboards, and applications in ArcGIS Online/Portal
- Assist in creating self-service GIS tools to streamline workflows
- Support the use of Survey123, Field Maps, Collector, and StoryMaps
- Work with engineering teams to onboard OSP vendors into GIS workflows
Data Conversion & Integration
- Convert and import CAD drawings into GIS
- Assist in integrating FME workflows for data automation
- Support GIS-based reporting, including Power BI and other dashboard solutions
- Maintain metadata and ensure proper schema management for GIS datasets
Operational & Technical Support
- Assist in GIS-related troubleshooting and issue resolution
- Support field teams with mapping needs and on-demand location analysis
- Provide documentation and training materials for GIS applications
- Ensure GIS data integrity for locates, permitting and network planning
Requirements
Education & Experience
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field
3-5 years of experience in a GIS-related role
Technical Skills
Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro
- Basic knowledge of spatial data analysis and geoprocessing tools.
- Experience with CAD-GIS integration and data conversion
Knowledge of Python, SQL, or FME for GIS automation is preferred
Soft Skills
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Strong communication and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in the telecom or utility industry
- Familiarity with 811 locates, OSP workflows, and engineering
- Exposure to GIS automation and scripting tools (FME, Python, Arcade
- Understanding of network infrastructure, fiber routes, and engineering drawings
