Job Description

We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager to oversee the full lifecycle of software applications across solution architecture, design, development, integration, performance testing, and maintenance. The Engineering Manager is responsible for managing one or more engineering teams and ensuring customer satisfaction for critical business systems within Digital Engineering. This position will be a contract and onsite in Miami, FL.

Due to the specific legal and contractual requirements associated with this position, this role will be direct employment with CAI. This position does not offer work authorization sponsorship now or in the future.

What You’ll Do

  • Hire, train, mentor, and manage one or more Software Engineering teams (5–15 engineers), including onshore and offshore resources

  • Establish and enforce best practices across the full software development lifecycle — architecture, build, test, deploy, and maintain

  • Conduct code reviews, provide technical guidance, and drive engineering standards across the team

  • Own team composition, capacity planning, and resource allocation across engineering workstreams

  • Manage performance, provide regular feedback, and cultivate a high-performing engineering culture

  • Coordinate onshore and offshore resources to maximize delivery velocity and qualit

  • Partner with delivery and product leadership to align engineering capacity with business demand and pipeline of work.

  • Define and drive the long-term technical vision and roadmap for the product area's backend and integration architecture

  • Identify opportunities for platform improvements, technical debt reduction, and scalability investments

  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies, patterns, and practices that advance the engineering organization

  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, standups, retrospectives, backlog refinement) to ensure overall engineering progress aligns with roadmaps and timelines

  • Act as the engineering point of accountability for a product area, with visibility across all technology layers — even those outside direct expertise

  • Identify risks, dependencies, and blockers across services, web, mobile, and content engineering; escalate proactively

  • Act as the technical liaison between engineering teams and business/functional stakeholders

  • Present technical concepts, status updates, project plans, and escalations to senior leadership with clarity and confidence

  • Collaborate with Scrum and Release Managers to ensure on-time, on-schedule delivery

  • Ensure appropriate quality processes are in place to deliver high-quality applications in compliance with all regulatory requirements

What You’ll Need
Required:

  • 7+ years of software development/engineering experience

  • 3+ years of experience leading engineers and managing engineering teams

  • Strong hands-on backend engineering background (Java, Spring Boot, microservices)

  • Solid understanding of Docker/containers and Kubernetes + Kustomize

  • Proficiency with GitOps workflows and Argo CD

  • Experience with Kafka and event-driven architecture

  • Experience with Couchbase or other NoSQL databases

  • Proven experience integrating backend services into front-end client applications (web and/or mobile)

  • Strong preference for candidates with backend/middleware/API development background who understand how to build scalable services that power guest-facing front-end experiences

  • Proven ability to manage teams, plan resources, and drive long-term technical strategy

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • High sense of urgency, ownership, and accountability

  • Solid experience working with offshore teams and driving work through closure across distributed teams

Preferred:

  • Experience developing both web and mobile solutions

  • Experience with GraphQL and API gateway architecture (Apigee or equivalent)

  • Experience with reactive programming (WebFlux, Project Reactor) and non-blocking I/O

Physical Demands

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards

  • Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.
