Performance Foodservice, a leading national food distributor delivering over 150,000 food and food-related products to customers across the United States, is seeking a motivated Driver Trainee, Class A CDL to join our Transportation & Logistics team in our Food & Beverage Operations. This entry-level role is designed for individuals who either hold a Class A CDL or permit and are eager to build a long-term driving career in foodservice distribution. As a Driver Trainee, you will work in a team-oriented environment where innovation, safety, and exceptional customer service are highly valued. You will ride along with experienced Class A route drivers on regional routes, supporting daily deliveries to a wide variety of customers, from family-owned restaurants to nationwide chains. Under close guidance and mentoring, you will learn to perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections, safely maneuver tractors and trailers in varied traffic and weather conditions, and operate lift gates, pallet jacks, and hand trucks to move product efficiently and safely. You will assist in unloading and delivering cases of food and food-related products into customer locations, sometimes in tight or challenging spaces, while maintaining product integrity and following proper food safety practices. You will learn how to verify orders and product counts, reconcile invoices, and address basic delivery questions or issues with professionalism and a strong customer focus. Throughout your training, you will be introduced to DOT regulations, hours-of-service rules, and company policies, and you will use electronic logging devices and handheld scanners to document deliveries and maintain accurate records. You will coordinate with dispatch and supervisors to report route status, delays, or concerns, and you will be expected to uphold our commitment to safety in every aspect of the job, including safe lifting, situational awareness, and defensive driving principles.
