À propos
This isn’t a “do one piece of the puzzle” role. You’ll own the entire hardware lifecycle—from component selection and schematic capture through board layout, prototype bring-up, testing, and production release.
About JAVS
Justice AV Solutions is a family-owned company headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. We’ve been designing and manufacturing courtroom AV technology for over 40 years. Our systems are installed across all 50 states and 17 countries. We design both the hardware and the software in-house, which means we move fast, we control quality end-to-end, and the engineering team has real influence on the product.
Around here, jeans are part of the dress code, ideas go up on the dry-erase walls, and the president’s door is open. We’re a tight team that takes the work seriously without taking ourselves too seriously.
What You’ll Do
* Serve as the primary hardware engineer across the full design lifecycle for JAVS products—courtroom digital recorders, audio mixers, video switchers, smart microphones, USB audio interfaces, amplifiers, and related systems.
* Perform schematic capture and circuit design in Altium Designer, from initial architecture through design review.
* Lay out (or directly manage the layout of) multi-layer PCBs with mixed-signal, high-speed digital, and power domains.
* Select components, manage BOMs, and make sourcing decisions that balance performance, cost, and long-term availability.
* Build up, rework, and bring up prototypes on the bench. Debug with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and audio test equipment.
* Design and implement FPGA/HDL blocks (Lattice, Intel) for video processing, audio routing, and interface bridging.
* Develop and execute formal test procedures, including EMC pre-compliance testing, to ensure products meet regulatory requirements (FCC, CE, UL as applicable).
* Work closely with contract manufacturers on PCB assembly, and with the in-house team on final product assembly and board-level testing.
* Collaborate daily with firmware engineers on hardware/firmware integration, pin assignments, peripheral bring-up, and debug.
* Partner with the mechanical engineer on enclosure fit, thermal management, and connector placement.
* Sustain and improve existing production hardware—ECOs, component obsolescence management, yield improvements.
What We’re Looking For
*Must-haves:*
* 15+ years of hands-on hardware/electrical engineering experience, with a track record of shipping products from concept through volume production.
* Deep proficiency with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
* Strong analog and mixed-signal design skills—you’re comfortable with audio signal chains, power supply design, and high-speed digital interfaces.
* FPGA design experience with Lattice and/or Intel (Altera) families, including HDL development (Verilog or VHDL).
* Working knowledge of pro audio and video interfaces: SDI (HD/3G), HDMI, Dante, analog audio.
* Experience with USB subsystems including USB-PD, USB audio class, and Ethernet/PoE.
* Prototype bring-up and debug skills—you can solder rework on fine-pitch components and systematically track down hardware issues.
* Experience managing contract manufacturer relationships for PCB assembly and working with in-house manufacturing teams.
* Familiarity with regulatory compliance: FCC, CE, and/or UL testing and certification processes.
*Nice-to-haves:*
* Experience with embedded Linux platforms (Raspberry Pi Compute Module or similar SBCs)—not writing firmware, but designing the carrier hardware and understanding the platform constraints.
* Background in DFM/DFA—designing for manufacturability at low-to-moderate production volumes.
* Experience with courtroom, broadcast, or professional AV systems.
* Power system design including USB-PD sink/source negotiation and PoE powered device circuits.
* EMC pre-compliance testing with your own near-field probes, current clamps, and TEM cells—not just handing boards off to a test lab.
* Familiarity with component lifecycle management and proactive obsolescence mitigation.
