The Aeroplan Currency Management team is responsible to manage the profitability of the Aeroplan accrual and rewards portfolio. The team is therefore constantly developing levers and program constructs allowing the optimization of the Aeroplan contribution to revenue and profitability of Air Canada, while delivering great value to our members

As a Redemption Optimization - Research & Development - Data Analyst (Loyalty Science), you need to be passionate about using data and your analytic skills to drive impactful business decisions. In this role, you will gain deep expertise in Data Science as it applies to the Loyalty and Airline industry. You will be responsible for identifying and enhancing both current and future analytical tools used to optimize pricing strategies and operational levers within the Currency Management team, directly contributing to the profitability and value proposition of the Aeroplan program.
You will develop specialized knowledge in Loyalty Science by engaging in areas such as Liability Management, forecasting, price sensitivity analysis, and understanding member behaviors-drawing on techniques from Behavioral Economics and advanced mathematical modeling. You will have the responsibility of translating these findings into high value, easy to understand stories that will be presented to department leaders in the pursuit of making Aeroplan the best Loyalty program in the market.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop data models and analytical solutions to improve pricing capabilities and optimize the Currency Management team productivity.
  • Build the tools used to optimize redemption pricing worth over $2B+ of revenue.
  • Develop analytics and data pipelines, advancing projects from proof of concept through to fully operational, production-ready tools.
  • Develop advanced knowledge of all data assets and processes relevant to core business support.
  • Develop and implement advanced predictive and prescriptive models to evaluate Aeroplan points liability and support various complex analyses regarding burn velocity behaviors.
  • Undertake a variety of analyses to provide recommendations to internal and external business units on key initiatives and strategic mandates that may impact liability and key performance indicators.
  • Provide support for the external audit processes related to liability activities.
  • Responsible for the QA of tools developed by the R&D team ensuring risks are minimized when deployed in PROD.
  • Responsible for investigating and creating fixes onto the flight reward and air accrual pricing pipelines and tools when issues are found.
  • Design predictive models to forecast the impact of bonus points and promotions on flight bookings and overall revenue.
  • Work closely with Revenue Management, Loyalty and Marketing teams to align incentive strategies with organizational objectives.
  • Produce ad hoc analysis and support of quantification of business initiative impact of financial KPIs and associated risk assessments through financial modeling.
  • Understands and analyzes complex business problems, then formulates data-driven hypotheses to drive business value.
  • Defines innovative data solutions to loosely defined business problems by leveraging pattern detection over potentially large datasets.
  • Support quantification of impacts and risks of product parameter management and marketing activities using various forms of interrelated subjects like mathematics, statistics, finance, economics, behavioral economics and computer science.
  • Represent the team’s interests in corporate initiatives, making sure profitability levers and efficiency of processes are taken into consideration.
  • Provide value-added support to other departments by performing various analyses on redemption data.
  • Use data visualization techniques to disseminate the discoveries to other departments in an interesting manner.
  • Build knowledge base of insights for proper internal dissemination.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Business, Business Intelligence or a related field - Master’s degree is an asset
  • Thrilled to tackle business challenges and identify new opportunities for growth
  • Advanced knowledge and concrete experience coding in SQL and python
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau and/or Power BI is mandatory
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to highlight insights when presenting findings (communicate complex concepts into simple ones)
  • Particular attention to data and code quality
  • Mathematics and statistics skillsets including predictive modeling, time series, optimization techniques, machine learning, etc. is an asset
  • Knowledge of the travel and loyalty industry, revenue management, and behavioral economics is strong asset
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines while paying attention to details
  • Positive thinking and sense of humor
  • Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment.
