The Swim Instructor at South Wood County YMCA creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and guiding participants through swimming skills in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:*
1. The goal of the swimming instructor during any lesson/training period is to complete each session with 100% attendance.
2. Misses no more than two classes per session, finds own substitutes, and prepares lesson plans for substitutes.
3. Prepare lesson plans for each class on a daily basis
4. Be on pool deck 10 minutes before class time to set up equipment and greet swimmers and parents.
5. Begin each and every class on time.
6. Responsible for assuring high standards of program quality, and safety in accordance with YMCA safety and risk management policies.
7. Follow all policies and procedures as set forth in the employee handbook, department handbook, and the emergency response plan manual.
8. Maintain records and progress reports.
9. Enforces YMCA pool rules at all times.
10. Knows YMCA safety and emergency procedures.
11. Teaches in a manner that is consistent with YMCA character development while creating an enjoyable and positive learning atmosphere and developing a supportive rapport with lesson participants of a variety of ages.
12. Be a role model of SMART Service
13. All duties as assigned.

*QUALIFICATIONS:*
· Minimum age of 15
· AED & Smart Service Training
· New Hire Orientation
· Complete SMART Service training during first 30 days of employment.
*Education Training & Work Experience*

· Ability to effectively present information to participants and enforce all pool rules.
· Understanding of basic and/or advanced stroke techniques and the ability to apply principals of teaching to help develop the participant swimming skills progression.
*Specialized Knowledge Skills & Certifications*
· YMCA Swim Instructor or American Red Cross W.S.I.
· First Aid, CPR for professional rescuers, A.E.D. and Lifeguard training
