Respiratory Therapist

Haywood Regional Medical Center, an acute care facility in Clyde, North Carolina, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive respiratory care to patients across the lifespan in our emergency department, critical care units, and general inpatient areas. You will perform thorough respiratory assessments, develop and implement respiratory care plans under physician orders and established protocols, and closely monitor patient responses to therapy. Core responsibilities include administering aerosolized medications and oxygen therapy, managing invasive and non-invasive ventilation, performing airway care and suctioning, and obtaining and interpreting arterial blood gases to guide treatment decisions. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals, you will actively participate in multidisciplinary rounds, contribute to evidence-based treatment planning, and support rapid response and code situations with expert respiratory care. You will set up, operate, and troubleshoot ventilators and related respiratory equipment, ensuring proper function, infection control, and adherence to safety and quality standards. Accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record, including assessments, interventions, patient responses, and education, is essential. In addition to direct patient care, the Respiratory Therapist will educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, equipment use, and home-care strategies to promote optimal lung function and recovery. You will help maintain a clean, well-organized work environment, follow all hospital and departmental policies, and support ongoing performance improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives. This position is based on-site within the hospital environment and may involve rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to ensure 24/7 coverage for our patients.
