Avera Health, a regional health system based in Sioux Falls, SD, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Physical Therapy Assistant to join our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will work under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to provide high-quality rehabilitative care to patients across a variety of conditions and diagnoses. You will assist in implementing individualized treatment plans designed to improve mobility, reduce pain, and help patients achieve their highest level of functional independence. As a Physical Therapy Assistant at Avera Health, you will carry out prescribed therapeutic exercises, gait training, balance and coordination activities, and the safe use of assistive devices and equipment. You will observe and document patient progress, communicate changes in condition to the supervising Physical Therapist, and collaborate closely with nurses, physicians, and other members of the care team to support coordinated, patient-centered care. Your daily work will include preparing treatment areas, ensuring proper infection control and equipment safety, and providing clear instructions and encouragement to patients and their families. Aligned with Avera Health’s culture of compassion, hospitality, and stewardship, you will be expected to build trusting relationships with patients, treating each individual with respect and dignity. You will educate patients and caregivers on home exercises, safe mobility techniques, and strategies to support continued rehabilitation outside the clinical setting. You will also contribute to accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record, following regulatory, payer, and organizational standards.
