The Medication Assistance Supervisor functions under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy Services or other pharmacy leadership as assigned. This role oversees all aspects of the Patient Assistance Program including the daily operations of the Medication Assistance Coordinators and ensures the effective management of prior authorizations, patient assistance programs, co-pay assistance programs, foundation programs, and other medication access initiatives. The Supervisor provides leadership, training, and support to the team while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational policies. Additionally, this position is responsible for tracking data trends, defining report methodology, and providing training to the Pharmacy Services staff. The Supervisor collaborates with patients, families, providers, nurses, social workers, and pharmacies to optimize medication access and enhance patient care.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Provide leadership, oversight, and support to Medication Assistance Coordinators ensuring efficient and accurate processing of medication assistance requests
Monitor and manage daily workflows ensuring timely completion of prior authorizations, co-pay assistance applications, patient assistance programs, and foundation assistance requests
Act as a resource for complex cases, escalations, and optimization, collaborating with pharmacy leadership, revenue management, patient access services, IT, and other departments to resolve issues related to medication access and streamline processes to maximize cost savings for patients and the health system
Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes to enhance program effectiveness
Develop, implement, and train team members on standard operating procedures (SOPs) to improve efficiency and effectiveness of medication assistance processes
Required Minimum Education
High School Diploma
Bachelors Health Science
Required Minimum Experience
Minimum 3 years in medication assistance programs, prior authorizations, or similar roles within a physician's office, medical center, or pharmacy
Minimum 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role, preferably in a healthcare or pharmacy setting
Minimum 2 years in application support, development, or system analysis in a healthcare environment
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)
CPHT - Cert Pharmacy Tech
PHT - Registered Pharmacy Tech
