About the Role We are seeking an experienced Azure DevOps Engineer to support and modernize laboratory infrastructure, including High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments, Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), and genomics data pipelines.
This role sits at the intersection of cloud engineering and life sciences, requiring strong Azure expertise along with hands‑on experience in regulated lab environments. You will play a key role in building scalable, secure, and automated systems that power genomics and laboratory workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Design and maintain Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines (YAML-based)
Manage Repos, Boards, Artifacts, and Test Plans in enterprise environments
Implement branching strategies, code reviews, and gated deployments
Automate infrastructure using Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates
HPC & Laboratory Systems
Collaborate with bioinformatics teams to optimize compute workloads
Integrate LIMS platforms (LabWare, STARLIMS, LabVantage, etc.) with cloud systems
Ensure secure and reliable data flow across lab systems and analytics platforms
Deploy and manage genomics workflows (WGS, RNA‑seq, variant calling)
Work with Docker, Singularity, and workflow engines like Nextflow, Snakemake, and WDL
Manage large‑scale genomic data lifecycle including storage, archival, and retrieval
Security, Compliance & Governance
Ensure compliance with GxP, HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11, and ISO 17025
Implement RBAC, audit logging, and secrets management using Azure Key Vault
Support audits and conduct infrastructure security reviews
Monitoring & Reliability
Configure monitoring using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights
Define SLAs/SLOs and incident response processes
Perform root cause analysis and drive continuous improvement
Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering
3+ years of hands‑on experience with Azure DevOps
Experience supporting laboratory systems with LIMS integration
Strong knowledge of HPC environments (SLURM, PBS, or CycleCloud)
Experience with genomics/bioinformatics pipelines and NGS data formats (FASTQ, BAM, VCF)
Expertise in Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates)
Proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes (AKS), or Singularity
Understanding of regulated environments (GxP, HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Nextflow, Snakemake, Cromwell/WDL, or Galaxy
Familiarity with Terra, DNAnexus, Illumina, or Seqera platforms
Experience in clinical or translational genomics laboratories
Knowledge of Azure Batch, Azure Machine Learning, or Azure Genomics
Familiarity with HL7, ASTM, or lab instrument integrations
Technical Environment SLURM, PBS, Azure CycleCloud, Lustre/BeeGFS, LIMS platforms (LabWare, STARLIMS, LabVantage), ELN integrations
Genomics & Bioinformatics Tools: BWA, GATK, STAR, Samtools, bcftools, DeepVariant
