We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Lead Senior Structural / Bridge Engineer to join our Consulting Structures team in Dublin. The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, but we offer a range of flexible working practices, including hybrid, part‑time, and other flexible patterns. Our new office at The Freight Building is located in Dublin’s thriving Docklands and provides a modern, flexible workspace designed for collaboration and innovation.
The role includes working on local projects in Ireland and supporting initiatives in the UK remotely, in partnership with transport authorities such as Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and Iarnród Éireann.
What You Will Be Doing
Leading a team and producing technically sound engineering solutions.
Taking ownership and leading bridge engineering projects from start to finish, from preparing the quotation all the way to handover, including:
Design development
Structural assessments
Principal inspections / special inspections
Feasibility and other technical reports
Preparing and checking designs, calculations, drawings and documentation to meet quality, cost and programme criteria.
Overseeing the work of junior staff and taking responsibility for their actions.
Contributing to the professional development of junior staff.
Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings and responding to queries.
Managing a small, locally based single‑discipline technical team and ensuring delivery of their workload.
Contributing to bid preparation and the general work‑winning function.
Driving effective health and safety practices within the team.
We Want to Hear From You If You Have
Developed experience and expertise in the structures field, typically gained in a senior engineering role or equivalent.
Comprehensive knowledge of structural design processes and procedures.
Ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
Ownership for the preparation and checking of deliverables to a reasonable standard.
Very good working knowledge of relevant software and analytical tools (e.g. LUSAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design).
Good commercial awareness.
Good understanding of safety, health & welfare and risk assessment.
Substantial experience in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects, with appropriate mitigation and transference applied.
Good understanding of interface management, ensuring deliverables align with those produced by other disciplines.
Incorporated or Chartered status with Engineers Ireland, ICE or IStructE, or an equivalent professional licence from a recognised institution (desirable and may be essential on particular contracts).
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an appropriate subject or demonstrable equivalent further learning.
