À propos

Hybrid role: You will work on average 2 days per week from an HPE office.
Overview Location: Sunnyvale, CA. HPE is seeking an Optical Engineer in the area of Coherent Optics. As a member of the Optical Engineering team you will drive novel technologies and solutions to create the next generation of packet‑optical products, primarily pluggable Digital Coherent Optics (DCOs) at bit rates of 800G and beyond. You will work with vendors to qualify pluggable coherent optics and develop and scope new ideas and technologies in this rapidly changing field. You will need strong technical skills and be able to communicate complex ideas across multiple disciplines, organizational levels, and geographically diverse teams. You will have opportunities to influence and guide the optical industry through peer-to-peer interactions and standards bodies and MSAs.
Responsibilities
Scope, specify and test coherent optical pluggable modules as part of HPE’s portfolio of switches and routers, with cross‑functional collaboration with software, hardware and system test engineers.
Develop purchase specifications (P‑Specs) for coherent optical products (primarily QSFP‑DD and OSFP).
Participate with suppliers on roadmaps, features and compliance to specifications.
Develop test plans to verify and test against optical/electrical specifications.
Review failed test results with suppliers and drive compliance to specifications.
Interact with internal teams (Mechanical, Thermal, System Engineering, HW/SW engineering) for coherent optics and router/switch system development.
Participate in development of next generation coherent optics, > 800Gbps.
Monitor standards activity to understand HPE’s needs and contribute when needed; develop technical specifications based on evolving standards; discuss technical tradeoffs on key design and component decisions.
Work on innovation projects to create Intellectual Property for HPE.
Identify test equipment and test architectures required to test new coherent optics products and continually improve test efficiency.
Conduct optical system level verification testing when needed to understand/reproduce customer issues and escalations.
Support PLM on customer RFP responses.
Basic Qualifications
BS or equivalent degree in a relevant engineering or physics discipline
Minimum of 10 years of relative experience in industry
Experience in testing/qualifying coherent optical transceivers, including OSNR measurements, impairment testing and measurement of other optical parameters
Experience in optical system verification and optical line system performance optimization
Solid knowledge in DSP ASIC and its interaction within the pluggable optical modules
Proficiency in programming/automation language, e.g., Python, C/C++, or MATLAB
Travel requirements for the position: 5%
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in optics, photonics, electrical, or related engineering degree
Experience with test automation using Python
Experience in coherent optical module development
