Mechanical Design Engineer II
Job Description As a key contributor to the design and development of cutting‑edge mechanical solutions at Honeywell, you will ensure that the products developed under your leadership meet the highest standards of quality and reliability. You will report directly to our Engineering Manager and work out of our Phoenix, AZ location on a hybrid work schedule.
Responsibilities
Mechanical Design and Analysis – Perform activities related to vibration, modal, deflection, fatigue crack growth, burst, HCF, LCF, thermal and stack analysis in support of finite element analysis (FEA) tasks.
Aerodynamic Design and Analysis – Perform activities related to 1D/2D aerodynamic analysis, evaluate parameters such as pressure ratio/mass flow/efficiency/surge margin in support of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tasks.
Support testing of components and engine modules throughout various lifecycle stages (rig, development, production); perform data reduction and analysis on test data; generate documentation capturing results and findings; develop and present engineering artifacts during structured design reviews; interpret engineering drawings via GD&T; contribute to technical mentoring, process/tool improvement and knowledge capture.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering or mathematics.
At least 2 years of experience in design, simulation, analysis or test in turbomachinery or a related field, with experience using ANSYS software suite or comparable.
Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles and methodologies.
Mechanical – ANSYS Mechanical FEA or equivalent experience required OR Aerodynamic – ANSYS CFX, FLUENT or STAR‑CCM or equivalent experience required.
Advanced engineering degrees (ME in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering) are valued.
Proven track record of successful mechanical design projects.
Ability to lead and mentor junior engineers.
Strong understanding of industry standards and best practices.
Experience with product testing and validation.
Knowledge of turbomachinery test methodologies such as strain gages, light probes and kulites.
CAD‑based modeling experience (e.g., NX, UG, SolidWorks, CATIA).
Compliance with U.S. export control laws: candidate must be a U.S. Person.
