Automation (Control Systems) Engineer
to join a high-performing Operational Technology (OT) team at a leading GMP-regulated manufacturing site in Dublin.
This facility specialises in
API production processes including synthesis, purification, and lyophilisation , and is recognised for its strong culture of

Role Overview
As an Automation Engineer, you will provide
technical expertise and hands‑on support
for process automation systems, while leading and contributing to system upgrades, troubleshooting activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day technical support for process automation systems (hardware & software)
Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues across manufacturing operations
Plan and deliver automation projects including upgrades, modifications, and system improvements
Conduct root cause analysis and support incident investigations
Develop and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and engineering specifications
Support and manage change control activities in line with site procedures
Ensure compliance with GxP, quality, and EHS standards
Participate in out-of-hours on‑call support as required
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability and performance
Core Duties
Support automation systems across the API manufacturing facility
Manage and resolve control system‑related issues
Apply operational excellence tools to problem‑solving
Implement and manage small to medium‑sized automation projects
Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders across multiple departments
Promote and maintain a safe working environment
Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
Experience
Proven experience in process automation within
biopharma, API, or life sciences manufacturing environments
Technical Skills
Strong experience with:
PLCs (Siemens, Rockwell)
SCADA systems (e.g., PCS7, iFix, InTouch)
HMIs and Batch systems
Building Management Systems (BMS)
Familiarity with:
RSLinx, RSNetworx, xcfaprz OctoPlant
ThinManager, PRTG Network Monitoring
Historians and database systems
Compliance & Standards
Knowledge of:
GAMP5 and software lifecycle practices
FDA 21 CFR Part 11 and EU Annex 11
ISA S88 / S95 standards
Networking & IT
Understanding of:
TCP/IP networking, routing & switching
Firewalls, IDS/IPS
Active Directory and domain integration
Additional Skills
Strong problem‑solving and analytical ability
Excellent communication and technical writing skills
Experience with change control, validation, and CAPA processes
Ability to manage stakeholders and work cross‑functionally
