About the Role
The VP Software Engineering is responsible for realizing GM Financial's Technology Implementation Strategy. This role will lead cross‑functional product teams performing analysis, design, development, automation, and production support for GMF's North America in an Agile environment. It includes providing leadership and direction of software engineering and quality engineering activities within the GM Financial North America organization, establishing a clear vision, building organizational capabilities, and technology roadmaps in partnership with other IT departments. The VP is a key contributor in defining standards, policies, and procedures, determining the technical direction, and implementing strategies to ensure long‑term organizational goals are met. The strategic leader will influence vision and strategy for IT, champion experimentation, innovation, and Agile management, and serve as an enabler for employees across the company to create competitive advantages. Responsibilities
Retain and attract technology talent and foster an engineering culture to provide an exceptional experience for GMF clients Champion technology modernization and platform resiliency to deliver optimal platform operational excellence Act as a change agent who can influence various stakeholders in business and technology domains to improve customers, dealers, and GMF associates experience Direct and oversee teams to gather project requirements, resolve production issues, and maintain business information systems Facilitate interaction with business partners and ensure technology platform alignment with strategic direction Develop processes, controls, and operational budget for the department Plan, organize, and direct the development and testing of software solutions Establish and maintain development and testing standards and control measures for developed software and systems Set strategic roadmap to include tools, processes, standards, and methods, leveraging industry standards and best practices Establish, manage, and report upon application and team performance and key quality metrics Foster and champion an environment that promotes trust, continuous improvement, innovation, quality outcomes, and self‑development Coach, mentor, and develop employees to strengthen skill sets, foster high performance, and support further career growth Participate in planning, monitoring, and implementation of department budget Develop and implement initiatives and strategies for areas supported Ensure strategies, objectives, and initiatives are in line with the overall corporate initiatives, strategies, and goals Work with IT and business management in developing business strategy Assist in the overall leadership and implementation of emerging technologies and best practices Maintain technical awareness and competence Adhere to published audit and compliance guidelines and principles Oversee development projects with an appropriate level of involvement Reporting Structure
This role reports to SVP, Divisional CIO. Qualifications
Advanced knowledge of large‑scale information systems, application development technologies, architecture, and tools Working knowledge of DevSecOps concepts, including continuous integration, continuous testing, and continuous delivery Advanced knowledge of Agile methodologies Knowledge of Auto Finance and lending business functions, policies, and procedures Knowledge of security frameworks, methodologies, policies, standards, and best practices Extensive experience supporting large and complex business operations environments Must be versed in all relevant technical disciplines Ability to effectively lead, organize, and supervise Ability to effectively translate technical knowledge into realistic and attainable strategies, policies, and processes and to implement them with positive impact on corporate goals and objectives Strategic thinking with ability to provide innovative technology solutions Commitment to quality and customer satisfaction and promotes a positive corporate culture Ability to make management decisions and set direction regarding the design, development, and testing of software solutions Strong, effective and persuasive oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively prepare and present information and respond to questions from all levels of management and public groups Ability to work proactively, efficiently, and effectively prioritize, with the ability to work through stressful situations and execute multiple projects Ability to relate well with others, build relationships and constructively interact with a variety of people and situations Ability to demonstrate integrity while successfully managing work demands and pressure; continually pursues personal development Prior software process experience highly desirable including waterfall, RUP, XP, etc. and transformation from those methodologies into Agile Experience with RESTful APIs and SOAP‑based web services Experience in budgeting, planning, personnel development, and business tools Experience in implementing cloud native solutions Experience
Greater than 10 years of progressively responsible experience within information technology (required) Greater than 7 years of leadership experience (required) High School Diploma or equivalent (required) Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related discipline or equivalent work experience (required) Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related discipline or equivalent work experience (preferred) What We Offer
