Job Overview Client is seeking an experienced Cisco Client Network Engineer will be working on innovative network design and operation supporting our Social Security Administration customer. This is an excellent opportunity to learn, grow, and be a part of a first‑class organization working on complex, leading‑edge network technology. In this role, the selected individual will be responsible for providing engineering expertise for complex multi‑service networking.
The identified Network Engineer is responsible for engineering and supporting the network design, deployment and operations for a large government customer located in Baltimore, Maryland. This position requires 25% to 50% travel to the customer site in Baltimore, MD. The selected individual is required to be onsite 2‑3 times per week, as needed.
What you will do
Analyze current network configurations and determine implementation requirements.
Configure routing protocols, complex switch networks, and Fabric Path configurations.
Prepare network equipment for deployment by loading appropriate software and configuration settings according to pre‑engineered design templates.
Assemble required equipment, cables, adapters, etc., and arrange delivery to the site for installation.
Upgrade configuration of existing network equipment to support new features and functions.
Work with field installation contractors on‑site and provide all technical details to complete installations.
Continually review the customer's network and practices to find opportunities to enhance network functionality, performance and reliability.
Assist in the evaluation of potential network products or technical solutions.
Test LAN/WAN and WLAN equipment software (e.g., IOS, NX‑OS).
Contribute to the development of network documentation, including diagrams, standards, specifications and operating procedures.
Monitor opportunities to enhance customer network/system performance or reliability.
Monitor opportunities to improve customer service delivery practices.
Perform ongoing management of network installation and upgrade projects and maintain deployment schedules.
Provide guidance to team members and status metrics to the Government customer and Peraton management.
Provide third‑level support and troubleshooting of network problems; periodically provide after‑hours and weekend support.
Maintain and extend expertise in applicable areas of network and computer hardware and software technology.
Understand network requirements of remote customer offices, campus buildings, and data centers; define equipment, cables, adapters and configurations needed to upgrade buildings and sites to established standards.
Basic Qualifications
BS/BA with 8 years of experience, MS/MA and 6 years experience, or 3 years with a PhD, or High School Diploma and 11 years of related experience in lieu of degree requirement.
4 years of experience administering and using the Cisco Client platform.
4 years of experience in a System Administration discipline, including administering VMware vCenter, Unix/Linux, and Windows platforms.
Minimum 4 years’ experience with Cisco router and switch configuration commands and configuring network authentication using TACACS and RADIUS protocols.
Minimum 4 years’ experience configuring management tools using SNMP and Microsoft Active Directory user‑account administration.
Minimum 3 years of experience with Python scripting language.
Must hold Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification.
Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
Must be located within commuting distance to the Baltimore, MD office for onsite work 2–3 times per week.
Preferred Qualifications
Passed Cisco Certified Internetworking Professional (Enterprise Core) exam within the last two years.
Minimum 4 years of experience writing Python scripts and using regular expressions.
Minimum 5 years of experience implementing Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) product in large multi‑data‑center and enterprise environments.
Minimum 5 years of experience deploying Cisco Virtual Private Network products such as Cisco ASA and Cisco Wireless LAN in multi‑office and large campus environments.
At least 5 years of experience working with physical media and networking equipment for wired and wireless networks.
Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to convey technical topics to management and non‑technical audiences and interface with the customer daily.
