Role Summary We are looking for a highly skilled, self‑directed Senior Backend Engineer with a strong polyglot mindset. Our ecosystem relies on both Node.js and Java. The engineer will own complex technical challenges from conception to deployment and leverage AIs to accelerate development.
Responsibilities
Architect, build, and maintain robust backend services across both Node.js and Java environments.
Design scalable, highly available backend architectures and APIs (GraphQL, REST) that integrate seamlessly with frontend applications and diverse backend microservices.
Design and optimize database schemas (SQL and NoSQL) to ensure data integrity and high performance.
Maintain high standards of code quality through code reviews, automated CI/CD pipelines, and mentorship.
Proactively identify performance bottlenecks and security vulnerabilities, implementing solutions independently.
Actively utilize AI development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate coding and translate logic between Node.js and Java ecosystems.
Requirements
5+ years of professional backend software development experience.
Deep, expert‑level knowledge in at least one core language with strong capability in the other: Node.js (TypeScript, NestJS, Express, Fastify) or Java (Spring Boot, modern Java).
Polyglot mindset: demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new languages and frameworks quickly.
AI tooling fluency: proven experience using AI coding assistants and prompt engineering.
Strong experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (Redis, Elasticsearch).
Solid understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), modern CI/CD pipelines.
Demonstrated autonomy in highly autonomous environments.
Experience building, scaling, and communicating between event‑driven microservices written in different languages.
Experience integrating AI APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic) into production applications.
Contributions to open‑source projects or a portfolio showcasing independent, multi‑language project execution.
Location Preferred to be located near our Denver, CO office, with hybrid work from home flexibility.
Compensation Salary Range: $135,000.00 – $165,000.00 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
