Purpose and scope of the role
The Senior BIM Engineer will lead and manage Building Information Modelling (BIM) delivery and digital design workflows across major infrastructure, transport, healthcare, utilities and building projects in the Republic of Ireland. Reporting into the regional digital/BIM lead and working closely with project managers, design leads, contractors and clients, you will define and implement BIM Execution Plans (BEPs), coordinate federated models, manage Common Data Environments (CDEs) and deliver scan‑to‑BIM, visualisation and Digital Twin outputs. The role covers projects of varied scale and complexity, from national infrastructure programmes to complex multi‑disciplinary built‑environment schemes, and will require interfacing with international RPS/Tetra Tech teams on global projects and delivery standards.
Your impact in this position
Rapidly establish robust BIM workflows and CDE standards on active projects, carry out federated model coordination and support delivery of high‑quality BIM outputs including visualisations and scan‑to‑BIM models.
Lead multi‑disciplinary BIM coordination, reduce design clashes through proactive model management, introduce automation and improved workflows (4D/5D, scripting, interoperability) and drive uptake of ISO 19650 best practice across project teams.
Shape digital delivery strategy in Ireland, contribute to digital innovation projects (Digital Twin, immersive public consultation, open‑world infrastructure environments), mentor colleagues, and influence organisational capability uplift across RPS and the wider Tetra Tech group.
Core Capabilities
BIM Leadership & Governance: Lead ISO 19650‑compliant delivery across projects, author and maintain BEPs, TIDPs and other project BIM documentation; ensure governance, QA and consistent use of CDEs.
Model Coordination & Technical Delivery: Manage federated model coordination, clash detection/resolution, model validation, and deliver scan‑to‑BIM workflows (point‑cloud to as‑built models); ensure model integrity for downstream uses (4D/5D/scheduling, cost, asset information).
Digital Tools & Visualisation: Produce and manage advanced visual outputs (3D, animations, VR, Digital Twin) and support virtual public consultation platforms; apply Unreal Engine, Adobe suite and other creative tools to communicate design intent.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Stakeholder Management: Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams and contractors, facilitate BIM/digital workshops, liaise with clients and supply chain to embed digital processes and meet project delivery objectives.
Innovation, Automation & Standards Integration: Drive research & innovation (Digital Twin, gamification, open‑world environments), implement automation (Dynamo, scripts, APIs), integrate GIS/sustainability tools (One Click LCA, PHPP) and continuously improve digital practice.
Skills, Experience, & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.
Minimum 5 years’ progressive experience in BIM coordination, BIM management or equivalent digital design role within the AEC sector.
Strong, demonstrable experience delivering to ISO 19650 standards and managing CDEs.
Desirable
Autodesk Certified Professional or equivalent BIM certifications; ISO 19650 training desirable.
Experience with point‑cloud processing tools (Recap, Faro Scene), Unreal Engine, Navisworks, Revit, Civil 3D, AutoCAD and cloud CDEs (BIM360/ACC, ProjectWise).
Experience of Digital Twin delivery, 4D/5D model development, Dynamo scripting and programming (Python, C#) or GIS integration.
Membership or working towards membership of a professional body (Engineers Ireland, RICS, ICE, CIAT etc).
Working Environment
This role is based in Dublin, Cork, Galway or Kilkenny, with hybrid working and agile office arrangements offered as standard. Office attendance will be balanced to meet project and client needs, while supporting flexible working for work‑life balance. Travel to client sites, planning authority meetings and project locations across Ireland will be required on an occasional basis. Office attendance expectations will be aligned with project milestones, stakeholder meetings and collaborative sessions such as BIM workshops.
What is in it for you?
