The Community Development Coordinator plays a central role in strengthening relationships between Waseskun and Indigenous communities across Canada. This position supports the development of culturally grounded initiatives that promote healing, reintegration, and community-based justice approaches.

Working collaboratively with community partners, the Coordinator facilitates projects, builds meaningful partnerships, and supports the successful reintegration of participants returning to their home communities. The role requires strong organizational skills, cultural awareness, and a commitment to restorative and alternative justice practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support projects in collaboration with Indigenous communities
  • Promote Waseskun’s programs and services to community partners and stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain partnerships focused on alternative justice and community-based corrections strategies
  • Collaborate with communities to design and deliver culturally relevant training models
  • Coordinate restorative reintegration processes to support individuals returning to their communities from Waseskun
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between Waseskun, community representatives, and partner organizations
  • Provide administrative and organizational support to ensure effective program delivery
  • Represent Waseskun in meetings, events, and community engagements as required

Qualifications

  • Experience and/or knowledge of Indigenous realities in Canada, including cultural, social, and historical contexts
  • Demonstrated organizational and coordination skills
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and communities
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is a definite asset
  • Understanding of restorative justice principles and community-based approaches (an asset)

Working Conditions

  • Travel to Indigenous communities may be required
  • Flexibility in work schedule may be necessary based on community needs and events
  • Work involves both office-based tasks and community engagement activities
