Summary
The Systems Administrator is responsible for maintaining and supporting the company's information technology infrastructure, including servers, networks, business systems, and end-user devices. This role ensures the reliability, security, and performance of technology systems that support daily business operations. The position combines systems administration with hands-on technical support, providing infrastructure management while assisting employees with desktop, hardware, and software troubleshooting.
Essential Functions
Infrastructure & Systems Administration • Administer and maintain the company's IT infrastructure including servers, networks, and enterprise systems • Monitor system performance and availability to ensure reliable and efficient operation • Administer Microsoft Windows environments including Active Directory and Microsoft 365 • Manage backups, data protection processes, and disaster recovery procedures • Maintain virtualization environments and storage systems as applicable • Ensure systems are updated with appropriate patches, updates, and security controls
Desktop Support and Technical Troubleshooting • Provide technical support for desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and other peripherals • Install, configure, and maintain computer hardware and software for employees • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, network, and connectivity issues • Troubleshoot application and system performance issues • Assist employees with system access, account setup, and technical questions
Network Administration • Maintain and support network infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless networks • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues • Assist with network configuration, upgrades, and maintenance
IT Operations & Security • Monitor systems for performance issues, vulnerabilities, and security risks • Assist in implementing cybersecurity practices including endpoint protection, user access management, and system monitoring • Maintain system documentation including configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides • Support onboarding and offboarding of employees from an IT perspective
Vendor Coordination & Asset Management • Work with external IT vendors and service providers to resolve technical issues and support system implementations • Assist with procurement and lifecycle management of IT hardware and software • Maintain inventory of technology assets and software licensing
Competencies • Technical problem solving and troubleshooting • Customer service orientation and responsiveness • Strong organizational and time-management skills • Attention to detail • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical users • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple technical issues simultaneously
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows Server environments • Experience with Active Directory and identity management • Microsoft 365 administration • Networking fundamentals including switches, routers, and wireless systems • Experience with desktop hardware, operating systems, and application support • Knowledge of backup systems and disaster recovery concepts • Understanding of cybersecurity best practices
Education & Experience • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred • Three to five years of experience in systems administration, IT support, or network administration • Experience supporting business technology environments with multiple users and systems • Relevant certifications such as Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco, or similar credentials preferred
Work Environment
This role operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment. Physical requirements include prolonged sitting, computer use, talking, hearing, and occasional standing or light lifting (up to 10 lbs.).
