Position Description:
The Financial Crimes Data Analyst will work in a high paced environment supporting the Financial Crimes department's ever-changing data, reporting and analytical needs in its efforts to mitigate and report on illicit financial activities. This position will focus heavily on requirements gathering, data analysis and building dashboards/reports/tools to: solve problems, automate reporting or meet specific business needs. Data Analyst will be required to develop a solid understanding of the existing prevention and detection systems, their related data and their usage by the business units supported within the Financial Crimes department. They will be expected to determine effective, innovative, and timely solutions to challenging business needs and translate often difficult concepts and issues from business to technology and vice versa.
Principal duties and responsibilities:
Work with Financial Crimes business users, outside departments and vendors to provide or capture data requirements. Build dashboards, reports, processes or data feeds to facilitate those needs
Apply statistical and/or other common analytical methodologies to detect outliers, estimate probability or provide important data insights.
Utilize tools like Tableau, SAP Web Intelligence, Excel, and Notepad++ to perform data validation, develop reporting or explore new datasets
Build SQL queries to explore datasets, run reports and compare data
Work with DBAs, providing them contextual information regarding data usage and reporting needs when onboarding new datasets
Build and utilize dashboards to monitor various data processes for data errors, failures, accuracy and completeness
Position Requirements:
Bachelor's degree required (advanced degrees/certifications a plus, commensurate experience accepted)
Strong analytical skills with 2+ years' experience in statistical data analysis, problem solving, data validation and reporting
Proficient in applying analytic methods to solve business problems and effectively evaluate data or processes to communicate meaningful results and insights
Proficient in developing clean and intuitive data visualizations and dashboards. (Strongly prefer this experience in Tableau)
Proficient in writing SQL queries and using Microsoft SQL Server 2016+ as a data source
Proficient in data cleansing and data shaping for visualization purposes
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel)
Experience with SAP Web Intelligence (BIC) report building preferred
Ability to complete assignments with little supervision while adhering to deadlines
Proven ability to create technical documentation
Strong work ethic, independent initiative, and interpersonal skills.
Proactive and self-starting
Strong oral and written communication skills
