The Sr Data Engineer is responsible for leading data design efforts and developing standards, proposing/evaluating technology and or tools, and providing governance for data integration, data modeling, data engineering, and data delivery/data access for the enterprise. The Data Architect will drive the development of best-in-class solutions using Microsoft Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory and supporting tools. This position will be engineering and building solutions to support key initiatives to deliver application, operational and business intelligence directives.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Design, engineer and construct advanced data components to support application, operational or business intelligence processes using Microsoft Azure SQL and Azure Data Factory foundations
• Support existing processes with diagnostic troubleshooting, discussions/documentation and break/fix support when needed
• Collaborate with the business partners & product development teams to capture requirements & determine data-driven solutions to integrate new project solutions with existing solutions
• Drive key technical and design discussions with technical and non-technical audiences across the organization
• Responsible for designing POCs, constructing and testing solutions that optimize client outcomes
• Develop and maintain high-level enterprise data models and conceptual views of related data sub-architectures (e.g., database, data integration, data warehouse/business intelligence, reporting, metadata, and content management architectures)
• Identify and implement service standards in conjunction with stakeholder-specific requirements (e.g., transaction processing speed, data mining, and reporting capabilities, data security, scalability, etc.)
• Optimize overall data/information flow by reducing redundancy and enabling accessibility within security boundaries
• Perform an active, leading role in shaping and enhancing overall Data/ETL architecture
• Drive innovations by keeping current on emerging technology and data trends and methodologies; communicate trends and opportunities to management and other stakeholders as needed.
Required Skills/Abilities/Attributes:
• Expert level understanding of SQL language
• Advanced understanding of NoSQL data type concepts
• Strong understanding of architecture/ modeling techniques such as Canonical/Common, Dimensional, Hub, Spoke (Enterprise Data Hub), Data Mesh, Master Data Management, etc.
• Direct experience developing and managing structured test processes as well as test/dev & production technical environments (staging, test, dev, production)
• Experience with "code management" systems and repositories (DevOps)
• Strong analytical skills and enjoy solving complex technical problems
• Ability to manage and make decisions about competing priorities and resources
• Must be a strong team player, team leader, and coach
• Demonstrated exceptional oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal skills
• Must have the ability to work both autonomously and with appropriate collaboration amongst other team members applying Data Management concepts to a variety of "real-life" business scenarios.
• Must be able to influence others through the articulation of ideas, concepts, benefits, etc.
• Must possess strong organizational, facilitation, and critical thinking abilities, to assess complex problems, analyze options, navigate diverse perspectives and objectives, and develop acceptable Data Management solutions
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• 5 + years of experience in a Data Architect / Sr Data Engineering role
• Experience with healthcare data types such as Electronic Health Records (EHR), claims data, and patient outcomes data a plus.
• 5+ years of experience in data architecture, business system designs, and ETL architecture.
• 3+ years of experience with hands-on experience designing and constructing data platforms and/ or data pipelines leveraging cloud data technologies
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in ETL/ ETL development in the Microsoft environment (DTS, SSIS, ADF, etc.)
• 5+ years of SQL Server (or comparable database) experience with BI/DW systems and operations
• Experience designing streaming scalable architectures
Physical Requirements:
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
• If working remotely outside of the DFW area, candidate must be able to travel once a month to Dallas, TX
