Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer

We’re working with a fast-growing, product-led business on a mission to improve the daily lives of customers. They are looking for a Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer to join their Platform Engineering team on a contract basis.

This role will play a key part in delivering scalable, high-quality backend systems while contributing to wider architectural decisions. You’ll work closely with engineers, product managers, and designers to build impactful features used by thousands of customers.

• Contribute to the architecture and technical direction of platform systems
• Design and build scalable, modular, and reliable backend services
• Develop high-quality, maintainable code across the stack (backend-focused)
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, Design, Engineering)
• Support best practices in code quality, system design, and CI/CD processes
• Participate in code reviews, mentoring, and knowledge sharing
• Work on customer-facing features that directly impact business performance
• Backend: Ruby on Rails (primary)
• Infrastructure: AWS, Heroku
• DevOps: Terraform, GitHub Actions (CI/CD)

• Strong commercial experience as a Senior Backend Engineer
• Proven expertise with Ruby on Rails (or similar OOP frameworks)
• Solid experience with PostgreSQL and relational databases
• Experience working on scalable production systems
• Strong understanding of system design and architecture
• Ability to work across the stack when needed (React/JS exposure beneficial)
• Comfortable working in small, high-impact teams

• Experience with Next. xcfaprz js / modern frontend frameworks
• Background in AWS, Terraform, or cloud infrastructure
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar)
• Startup or high-growth environment experience

Candidates from the following backgrounds may also be a strong fit:

• Python or other object-oriented backend languages
• Java engineers who have transitioned (or are open to transitioning) to Ruby
• PHP developers with e-commerce platform experience
