The Company
Carolina Metal Fabricators (CMF) is a structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication company based in Raleigh, NC. We have been serving the construction and industrial markets in the Carolinas corridor for years, and we are now in the middle of the biggest growth phase in the company’s history.
We recently acquired a second fabrication facility in Durham, expanding our capacity dramatically. The Raleigh shop is established and running. The Durham shop is coming online. We need someone to help fill both.
The Role
This is a ground-floor sales role at a company that is doubling its physical capacity. You will be responsible for building and managing B2B relationships across both CMF locations. That means maintaining and growing our existing Raleigh accounts while developing new business to fill the Durham facility.
This is not an order-taking position. You will be prospecting, quoting, building relationships with general contractors, industrial installers, and commercial clients across the region. The work is hands-on and relationship-driven. If you have ever estimated steel work, managed fabrication projects, or sold into the construction and industrial markets, you already understand the world this role lives in.
What You Will Do
Own the full sales cycle for B2B accounts at both the Raleigh and Durham locations, from prospecting through close Build and maintain relationships with general contractors, industrial installers, custom fabrication shops, and outsource processing clients across the Carolinas Manage your own pipeline, track opportunities, and provide revenue forecasts to ownership Develop market intelligence on pricing, competitors, and project activity in the region Collaborate with the operations team to ensure what gets sold can be fabricated and delivered on time Protect and grow the existing Raleigh book of business while building the Durham revenue stream from the ground up
Who This Role Is For
We are looking for two types of people:
A junior to mid-level B2B sales professional
who has sold into industrial, construction, or manufacturing markets and wants to step into a role with real ownership and upside. You have a few years of selling under your belt, you know how to prospect, and you are ready to run a territory, not just support one.
A senior estimator or project manager with strong people skills
who understands steel fabrication from the inside and wants to move into a client-facing sales role. You already know the product, the process, and the language. What you bring is credibility with buyers who can tell the difference between a salesperson and someone who actually understands the work.
What We Are Looking For
Experience in steel fabrication, metal manufacturing, construction, or a related heavy B2B industry Familiarity with the Carolinas construction and industrial market (existing relationships are a strong plus, not a requirement) A self-starter who manages their own calendar, pipeline, and follow-up without being chased Comfort with quoting, estimating, or at minimum learning the basics of fabrication pricing Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust with both shop floor teams and C-level buyers Willingness to travel across the Raleigh-Durham corridor and the broader Carolinas region as needed
Compensation
This role combines a base salary with commission on gross margin, so your earnings grow as the company grows. Compensation is structured as base plus commission across both CMF locations.
On-Target Earnings, Year 1:
$110,000 to $130,000 On-Target Earnings, Year 2:
$160,000
Full benefits package including health insurance, 401(k) with company match, and vehicle allowance. Equity participation may be available after two years of demonstrated performance.
Where This Goes
This role is not a ceiling. As revenue grows, this position grows with it. The path forward includes building a small sales team, taking on more strategic account management, and participating in the ownership structure of the company.
We are a small company with big capacity coming online. The person who fills this role will have more impact on the trajectory of the business than anyone else we hire this year. That is not a sales pitch. It is the math.
Location
This role is based in the Raleigh-Durham, NC area with regular travel across the Carolinas corridor. You will split time between the Raleigh shop, the Durham facility, and client sites. This is a field sales role, not a desk job.
