NATURE OF WORK
The Helpdesk / Deskside Support Intern provides front-line technical assistance and customer service to City staff, with the general oversight of Helpdesk and Deskside Support personnel. This position supports hardware, software, and user needs, assists with PC imaging and deployment, and performs related duties as assigned by management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (These essential duties are only illustrative.) • Respond to service requests in a professional, courteous, and timely manner • Provide support for hardware, software, and peripheral equipment • Assist with PC imaging, setup, configuration, and deployment • Troubleshoot and resolve common desktop, laptop, and application issues • Document work performed in the City's ticketing system • Perform other related duties as assigned by management

Works under the supervision of Information Technology Help Desk Supervisor or other administrative superior(s), who reviews work for the effectiveness of services provided, user satisfaction, and results achieved.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is essentially sedentary with occasional walking, standing, and bending. Computer work requires manual dexterity. Installation work requires occasional lifting of computer units, monitors, printers and related equipment under 25 pounds.
SUCCESS FACTORS (KSAs) • Knowledge of troubleshooting methods for hardware, software, and peripheral devices • Ability to provide software support and assist end-users with application issues • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Ability to translate technical terminology into terms understandable to non-technical employees • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment • Skill in using a computer and related equipment.
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
CompTIA A+ certification or Enrollment in an academic program through an accredited institution in computer science, Information Technology, or related field preferred
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid IL Driver's License as needed by the position
Must be at least 17 years of age to apply, and 18 years or older at the time of hire
