Job Title: Cyber Security Manager Location:
Hybrid (Home Counties - flexible, with some office presence) Salary:
£68,000 - £72,000 (flexible depending on experience)
The Opportunity
We're supporting a search for a Cyber Security Manager to take ownership of cyber across a well-established organisation with around 3,000 users and a hybrid environment (50% on-prem / 50% Azure).
This is not a turnaround. The foundations are strong. The environment is stable, the infrastructure team is capable, and cyber is already taken seriously at an executive level. In fact, the organisation is recognised externally for its maturity and progress in this space. A benefit of which will be increased exposure and credibility for yourself and future career ambitions.
What they need now is someone to take the lead, build on that momentum, and continue improving their security posture in a landscape that doesn't stand still.
You'll sit close to leadership, influence direction, and be the person the business looks to when it comes to cyber strategy, incidents and assurance.
The Role
This is a hands-on leadership role that blends strategy, governance and practical delivery.
You'll take ownership of cyber across the organisation, working closely with infrastructure, external partners and senior stakeholders to ensure the right controls, processes and responses are in place.
Key responsibilities include:
Cyber Leadership & Strategy Own and evolve the cyber security strategy, ensuring it keeps pace with emerging threats. Lead on PSN health checks, audits and compliance activities. Define policies, guardrails and security standards across the organisation. Identify gaps and build business cases for investment and improvement. Operational Security & Incident Response Act as the lead during security incidents or breaches, coordinating response and communication. Work with internal teams and external SOC providers to ensure effective detection and response. Oversee vulnerability management processes (e.g. Tenable) and ensure remediation is delivered. Security Awareness & Culture Ensure phishing simulations and security training are embedded and effective. Promote a strong cyber culture across the organisation, including targeted training for high-risk areas (e.g. finance). Governance & Stakeholder Engagement Operate confidently with senior leadership and executive stakeholders. Sit on governance forums and contribute to organisation-wide decision making. Co-chair a Microsoft-led Cyber Security forum alongside another major public sector organisation — providing real external visibility and credibility. Team & Capability Development Line manage and grow the cyber function (including hiring into an existing vacancy). Lead resilience planning and desktop exercises. Work cross-functionally with infrastructure, data protection and governance teams. The Person
This role suits someone who can operate at two levels: confident in front of senior stakeholders, but still comfortable getting hands-on when needed.
You may come from a Cyber Security, Infrastructure or Engineering background, but you'll need enough technical depth to challenge engineers and understand where risks sit. Essential experience includes: Experience leading or owning cyber security within a complex environment. Strong understanding of risk, controls and security architecture principles. Experience with security frameworks, audits and compliance (e.g. PSN, GDPR). Exposure to hybrid environments (on-prem and cloud). Experience working with SOC providers, SIEM and vulnerability tooling. Ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders and exec teams. Nice to have: Public sector or regulated environment experience. Experience with Microsoft security tooling (Defender, M365 security stack). Experience contributing to or leading external forums or working groups.
