We are looking for a User Researcher to join our community of tech experts in DWP Digital.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • Experience of user research or appropriate experience in other fields of research.
  • Knowledge and experience of using a range of qualitative and quantitative research methods, selecting the most appropriate method depending on the requirements.
  • Significant experience of planning and conducting research that considers the diversity of users, keeping in mind access needs and the ethical nature of research.
  • Extensive experience and proven track record of generating new and useful insights for a project team to leverage, ensuring where relevant that the insights influence decisions.
  • Experience of communicating insights from research to project teams and wider stakeholders or clients, to inform their decisions and make actionable recommendations.

Why do we need a User Researcher like you?
As a User Researcher, you will put user needs at the centres of our thinking as we improve our systems for millions users. You'll be planning and designing research programmes that will inform the products and services we develop.

You'll work closely with users and agile delivery teams to test both broad concepts and detailed service elements, ensuring that research findings are clearly communicated, understood, and translated into practical, actionable recommendations.

We need a champion of user-centred design and core research principles. You'll help build a shared understanding of user needs across teams and stakeholders, influencing design decisions and driving improvements in service delivery.

You'll also help our product teams to collaborate, guiding them in interpreting research insights and maintaining a strong focus on user experience throughout the development lifecycle.

Your work will shape services that are inclusive, effective, and aligned with the needs of the people who use them.

Location: You'll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield, whichever is most convenient for you.

Hybrid Working: We work a hybrid model - you'll spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.

Pay: We offer competitive pay of up to £46,547.

Pension: You'll get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97%, worth up to £12,876 per year.

Holidays: A generous leave package starting at 25 days rising to 30 days over time.

You can also take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi-time. You'll also get all the usual public holidays.
