As part of the Ledger team, a core service within Coinbase, you will oversee transaction processing and fund management for our users. This is a unique opportunity to reimagine foundational systems that will propel Coinbase into the next decade. We are searching for problem solvers who enjoy navigating the complexities at the intersection of crypto, finance, and distributed systems. Your responsibilities will include: Designing and developing scalable ledger systems capable of processing millions of transactions using modern technologies and industry best practices.
Creating, testing, and deploying high-quality product features that prioritize integrity, scalability, maintainability, and stability.
Driving strategic technical direction for complex projects, either individually or within a team.
Proactively identifying and resolving technical challenges.
Collaborating with internal stakeholders including finance and product teams to deliver impactful, high-visibility features and initiatives.
Partnering with engineers, data analysts, product managers, and senior leadership to convert our product and technical vision into actionable plans each quarter.
Mentoring and developing junior engineers while influencing technical design and code quality.
Enhancing system performance by integrating AI into operational practices.
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications: A minimum of 5 years of software development experience, specifically in creating performant, large-scale distributed systems.
Strong coding expertise, particularly in Go, along with a solid understanding of relational databases and transactions.
Exceptional problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to debugging and anticipating potential issues.
Experience leading teams to deliver robust solutions.
Familiarity with highly concurrent systems and a good intuition for REST API design.
Demonstrated experience in significant projects that have long-term impact on a single system or team.
A proven track record of identifying customer pain points with a proactive mindset.
Ability to drive alignment among both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong technical knowledge with excellent judgment regarding task prioritization.
Capacity to solve complex engineering problems that align with team objectives.
Ability to guide junior developers and lead technical initiatives and system enhancements.
Additional desirable qualifications: Experience with distributed systems and databases.
Background in financial services.
Experience in a rapidly growing company from startup to mid-size.
Familiarity with growth experiments or A/B testing frameworks.
Experience with blockchain technology such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Proficiency in Golang, Python, Docker, SQL, or Postgres.
Experience building financial, high-reliability, or security-focused systems.
Knowledge of crypto-related activities, including Ethereum interaction, ENS usage, and engagement with decentralized apps or blockchain services.

Depending on your work location, the target annual base salary for this position ranges from $186,065 to $218,900 USD. Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility, along with benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
