*This position is temporary and includes full state fringe benefits; it is anticipated to last two (2) years.
In this dynamic, fast-paced role, you'll serve as a technical expert on our data services team at Minnesota IT Services (MNIT), partnering with Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) to design, deploy, and maintain Machine Learning and AI pipelines that leverage the full power of Amazon Web Services (AWS). This position requires an employee to be onsite at
625 Robert Street North Paul, MN 55101, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location.
Telework for Minnesota IT Services is available on a limited basis. Employees will be required to meet current telework eligibility requirements.

Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of IT related experience in Amazon Web Services (AWS) or related data technologies.
Data Engineering proficiency with S3, Glue (inclusive of PySpark for large-scale processing), and Lambda SQL querying experience across multiple engines (Athena, Redshift, RDS, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, etc.) Experience building Generative AI applications using Bedrock (e.g. RAG systems, agents, orchestration) Experience deploying Machine Learning models using AWS SageMaker. Ability to troubleshoot complex data systems and resolving issues independently. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a manner that facilitates mutual understanding. Customer-focused approach grounded in active listening, empathy, and solution-oriented problem-solving to deliver positive user experiences. Education in Information Technology (IT) or an IT related field may substitute for experience as follows: a master's degree for eighteen (18) months of experience; a bachelor's degree for one (1) year; and an associate's degree for six (6) months.
Preferred Qualifications
An AWS Certification such as Cloud Practitioner, Data Engineer, AI Practitioner, Machine Learning Engineer. Experience deploying containerized data engineering workloads through AWS services such as ECS. Comfort with troubleshooting data pipelines with little precedence and adjusting to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity and rapid changes. Passion in one or more of the following aspects of data governance: quality, integration, security, lifecycle management, stewardship, metadata management. Demonstrated ability to research, evaluate, and implement emerging technologies. Strongly Preferred Qualifications
Experience building grounded chatbot or question-answering applications using Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) in AWS including knowledge base creation, embedding generation, retrieval pipelines, and model orchestration. Experience designing and integrating non-relational data storage solutions, including vector stores/search and NoSQL document/key-value systems. Additional Requirements
