Overview

The Development Officer is responsible for the planning and implementation of the overall stewardship strategy to support the organization's budget, consistent with the mission and purpose of Beacon of Hope Ministries. This position provides leadership in the areas of fundraising and marketing and supervises ongoing and special project funding programs. Such as individual, corporate, and organizational gifts. Plus, manage donor development, direct mail, and digital campaigns, planned gifts, foundation gifts, in-kind donations, public relations, digital communications, volunteers, fundraising events, and database management.

Duties

  • Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies aligned with organizational goals, including major gifts, grants, events, and digital campaigns.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with donors, volunteers, partners, and community stakeholders through personalized engagement and effective communication.
  • Lead proposal writing efforts for grants and sponsorships, ensuring compelling narratives that highlight organizational needs and impact.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage fundraising events from inception to execution, ensuring they meet financial targets and enhance visibility.
  • Oversee data collection and management using CRM software such as Salesforce or Raiser's Edge to track donor activity, analyze trends, and inform future strategies.
  • Manage budgets related to development activities, ensuring efficient allocation of resources for maximum return on investment.
  • Utilize digital marketing tools like Mailchimp, Constant Contact, WordPress, and social media platforms to increase outreach and engagement efforts.
  • Conduct research on potential funding sources, including foundations, government agencies, corporations, and individual donors, to diversify revenue streams.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop compelling campaigns that promote the organization’s mission through email marketing and social media management.
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements related to estate planning, wills, trusts & estate law as they pertain to donor gifts and planned giving programs.

Skills

  • Proven experience in nonprofit development or fundraising roles with a focus on strategic planning and relationship management.
  • Experience in event planning, events management, and volunteer management to maximize engagement opportunities.
  • Strong proposal writing skills complemented by experience in grant proposal writing for various funding sources
  • Excellent negotiation skills to secure sponsorships, partnerships, and funding agreements that benefit organizational growth.
  • Ability to analyze data effectively for informed decision-making; experience with databases used in nonprofit settings is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with estate planning concepts related to wills, trusts & estate law for planned giving initiatives.
  • Strong research skills to identify new funding opportunities aligned with organizational priorities.
