The CAE Software Applications Developer I, under the Product and Infrastructure Manager direction, performs routine software development and support functions for the Tarleton State University Center for Agribusiness Excellence (CAE). This position supports CAE’s mission by assisting in the development, enhancement, and maintenance of applications and data‑driven solutions used in agricultural analytics and reporting. Serves as a Campus Security Authority.
The position is assigned to Tarleton State University’s main campus in Stephenville, Texas, with standard Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. hours or as business needs require. Remote or hybrid work arrangements may be considered in accordance with university and departmental guidelines.
Responsibilities:
Confers with clients to define application requirements. Identifies programming and output needs. Perform software development (including coding and testing), quality assurance testing and support of user acceptance.
Verifies preliminary design and output and recommends technical and procedural design for new or revised applications including flow charts, system specifications, programming guidelines, and code review.
Reviews, modifies, and writes program code and job control language.
Writes documentation of system procedures and guidelines for application users as well as for programs and program modifications.
Assists with testing complex programs, program modifications, or applications.
Answers questions and provides technical assistance and training to application users. Resolves problems by reviewing and analyzing software documentation and production outputs to identify causes, solutions, and make appropriate referrals

Minimum Requirements
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Four months related experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Knowledge of intermediate troubleshooting, client relations, formulating and contributing ideas, and knowledge of the Information Technology Interface Library (ITIL).
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer network and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system.
Other requirements: Must qualify for USDA Security Clearance (USDA clearance contingent upon US citizenship or permanent residency status).
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Salary Range: The target base annual salary range is $49,000 up to $64,531 and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
