The Role

As part of our dynamic Property Development Team, you will play a crucial role in our architectural function. With our brand expanding rapidly, we are on a mission to deliver high-quality, affordable fitness that is accessible to everyone.

As a Project Architect , you will take full ownership of the architectural design for all assigned property development projects, whether they involve new sites or refurbishments. You will also contribute to fostering a culture of best practices and continuous improvement within the Development department.

Your Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the architectural delivery of new site acquisitions and refurbishment projects from feasibility through design to completion and handover.
  • Evaluate high-level feasibility for new sites and identify optimal refurbishment opportunities across our existing estate.
  • Provide technical evaluations and insights for each site, ensuring all architectural and design requirements are met.
  • Ensure approved designs adhere to brand format requirements and standards.
  • Offer specialist technical input regarding building control, fire regulations, and technical standards.
  • Create all necessary architectural documentation to obtain required building approvals and consents.
  • Contribute to decision-making at key stages in the property development process.
  • Proactively improve gym formats and standards.
  • Support and encourage peers to achieve team goals while fostering a positive environment.
  • Act as an ambassador for PureGym, positively representing the Development function both internally and externally.
The Person:
  • Qualified Architect with recognized certification and credentials.
  • Experience in designing and delivering multi-site property developments at scale.
  • Background in customer-facing industries such as leisure, retail, or hospitality is a plus.
  • A proactive problem-solver who can make critical decisions under pressure.
  • Adaptable and able to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
  • Technically competent and solution-focused, with the ability to prioritize and escalate issues effectively.
  • Excellent communicator, capable of conveying complex messages simply and engagingly.
  • Commercially astute, evaluating investment decisions while balancing member brand expectations.
  • Member-focused, always striving to enhance the experience for all.
  • Process-oriented, with a knack for identifying and eliminating waste through lean thinking.
  • Able to collaborate cross-functionally to achieve the best outcomes for members and PureGym.
  • A passion for fitness and leisure is a bonus!
  • Willingness to travel as required.
